The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a qualified postdoctoral research fellowship in the nanotechnology laboratory of Dr. Taryl Kirk of Rowan University starting Fall 2017. The position will primarily involve the development of a near field emission scanning electron microscope with polarization analysis.  Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in electron spin optics, especially in constructing Mott and/or spin polarimeters and strong recommendations from references.

All applications will be retained for future postdoctoral researcher appointments.



Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field and substantial experience in at least one of the following areas: magnetic-measurement techniques, spin polarization detectors, UHV systems, cryogenics and low-temperature physics, scanning electron microscopy, and/or scanning probe microscopy. This research is part of a National Science Foundation – Major Research Instrumentation grant award (NSF - 1644655), which is a collaborative project between Rowan University, Rutgers University, and Villanova University. Most research activities of the successful postdoctoral fellow will be conducted at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Applicants must have a strong interest in engaging undergraduates in research. The appointment will be for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The position offers a competitive salary.

Required Qualifications:

Must complete defense and obtain dissertation committee approval prior to joining.

The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
