Senior Systems Architect

Are you a dedicated, adaptable, self-starter who enjoys working with and learning a wide variety of technologies? Rowan University is seeking an experienced, innovative System Architect to join our growing community. In this position, you will drive the overall infrastructure and services architecture within Network and System Services. This includes hypervisor environments, enterprise storage, Windows and Active Directory, Linux, Citrix, security platforms, network infrastructure, firewalls and multiple core service offerings. You will work with, and advise, the system and network administration staff responsible for the day-to-day operation of the server and network environments as well as represent Network and System Services on division and institution wide projects.

General Responsibilities:

  • Advise, coordinate and lead teams in the conception and design of infrastructure service components, including servers, hardware, network infrastructure, firewalls, security platforms, systems, applications and upgrades
  • Propose and design enhancements to improve the performance and reliability of all systems and services in accordance with industry standards
  • Propose, design and coordinate implementation of monitoring platforms, policies, procedures, and standards to ensure a stable production environment
  • Lead technical projects for major initiatives, changes and deployments
  • Design, implement and test Disaster Avoidance and Recovery plans
  • Serve as a senior troubleshooting authority for high-visibility and/or high-impact problems within the enterprise
  • Create and maintain system documentation, diagrams, operational procedures, architectural documentation and ownership of server and application inventory

Required Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in a technology related field or equivalent education. Professional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • At least 3 years of extensive working knowledge of system architecture and networking, TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, Active Directory, Windows, Linux, enterprise storage environments, server environments, network infrastructure components, and VMware
  • Familiarity with standard methodologies surrounding the proper maintenance and support of a 24x7 server infrastructure
  • Understanding of security industry standards and technologies
  • Strength in analyzing and tackling challenging technical problems and offering creative solutions
  • Ability to excel when working with multi-functional teams on complex IT projects
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in an enterprise environment
  • Technical project management experience
  • Experience planning and executing enterprise-wide infrastructure initiatives
  • Experience migrating on premises services to a cloud-hosted or SaaS model
  • Expertise that may include: Visio, SolarWinds, VMware ESXi, NSX, vSAN and vSOM, Citrix, Fibre Channel, Infoblox, CentOS, Active Directory, Exchange, Google Apps, AWS, SQL Server, McAfee security and compliance platforms, HP servers and storage, HPC environments, Identity and Access Management, Netscaler or F5 load balancing, Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco telephony, routing and switching equipment and services.
  • Certifications may include VMware VCP/VCAP/VCDX, Microsoft MCSE, RedHat RHCE/RHCA, Citrix CCP/CCE, CCNA, PMP and/or ITIL

This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
