Position Description:  

Working in Rowan University’s Information Resources & Technology (IRT) – Analytics, Systems & Applications (ASA) division, this position serves as a key member of the team that develops, implements, and maintains enterprise systems and supports university-wide information systems that interface with the Rowan University system of record (Banner).

This position reports to the Director of Information Services and works closely with Business Information Analysts (BIAs), functional units within the Finance division and the ASA and IRT teams to develop and manage information systems applications particularly related to Rowan’s Enterprise Information System. This includes, but is not limited to Banner Finance, Receivables, and General Ledger modules; Page-Up (online recruiting applicant tracking system); and other related applications.

The Analyst/Developer position requires strong business skills and finance-related experience. S/he is responsible for working closely with the BIAs and functional units to review, analyze, and maintain or develop systems to meet business process requirements including encoding, testing, debugging, and supporting applications.

The Analyst/Developer will work with the BIAs and functional units to identify and define current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives. S/he is responsible for writing documentation for systems development, maintenance, configurations of applications, and operating procedures.


  • Provides high-level production support 
  • Participates in system architecture, design, and capacity planning for new functionality
  • Works with BIAs to review documented processes and requirements; understands and documents the integration of various processes across functional units
  • Troubleshoots and documents issues and solutions
  • Performs system development, along with business process analyses and system functionality needs
  • Works closely with IRT colleagues, functional business units, and other stakeholders to develop and document solutions based on specified business requirements for any needed enhancements
  • Develops and maintains accurate documentation
  • Provides technical advice, problem-solving assistance, and answers to questions regarding systems standards and procedures
  • Provides support for university systems
  • Provides technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new IT software projects
  • Makes recommendations on custom applications  
  • Works with BIAs to identify opportunities that can improve efficiency of business processes
  • Troubleshoots technical issues; investigates and resolves application functionality issues  
  • Assists colleagues and DBAs with application installation and testing
  • Identifies modifications to processes needed to meet changing user requirements
  • Works with BIAs, functional units, and ASA colleagues to identify data integrity issues and implement solutions
  • Participates on project teams as assigned; assists in system design and functional specifications for new development projects

Additional Requirements:

  • Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is required for this position. 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline; or Bachelor’s degree in another field combined with significant direct experience related to the job requirements
  • Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute applicable professional experience on a year-for-year basis. Therefore, to qualify under the substitution allowance at this level, candidates must possess a total of at least seven (7) years of applicable professional experience.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of functional and technical ERP (finance-related) experience required, preferably in higher education

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience with SQL, Ellucian Banner System and/or related products preferred
  • Three (3) years of recent hands-on related experience in a multiple vendor, multiple customer, multi-protocol environment

Required Skills:

  • Aptitude to plan, organize and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with developing and maintaining systems and applications
  • Understanding of Finance principles and practices
  • Ability to create applications using one or more of the following: PL/SQL, Python, Perl, ECMAScript, Linux Shell (bash, grep, sed, etc.), Groovy/Grails, and/or Oracle Application Express
  • Proficiency with report writing, data analysis, querying databases, and reporting tools
  • Keen attention to detail, with the demonstrated ability to document and communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify a problem, develop a solution and implement that solution
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining ETL processes
