We are seeking a qualified, competent and service oriented technician for Rowan University’s College of Engineering (COE), to meet the technical support needs of our growing faculty and student population, as well as our expanding laboratory facilities. 

The candidate must have strong engineering background with academic experience, creative project development and management skills as well as excellent communications skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, must be capable of multi-tasking on many difficult problems in a fast-paced environment, and must be available to work in a flexible schedule that may include some evening hours.

The duties of the technician include working closely with students, faculty, and staff to:

Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory facilities and departmental field equipment to support innovative engineering education and research programs of the highest caliber;

Assist students and faculty with the design, prototyping, fabrication, set-up, and operation of laboratory demonstrations and experiments for classes, engineering clinics and research projects;

Provide individual and group training to students, staff, and faculty on laboratory safety procedures, and the proper and safe use of instrumentation; maintain safety and regulatory standards, and monitor laboratories to ensure safety;

Help specify and procure laboratory equipment and supplies, maintain department inventory, and ensure that the necessary materials and supplies for labs are in stock.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline, but Electrical and Computer Engineering is preferred. 

At least two (2) years of work related experience. 

A Master’s degree is preferred. 

Desired Experience:

  • Using, maintaining, troubleshooting and calibrating test and measurement equipment / instrumentation, including scopes, Digital Multimeters, power supplies, signal / function generators, etc.;
  • Data Acquisition – familiarity with NI or similar products (myDAQ, myRIO);
  • Use of engineering software for design and analysis such as LabVIEW, Visual Studio, AutoCAD, SoldWorks, Matlab, etc., as well as expertise in relevant programming languages, such as C, C++, Java, Matlab, HTML, Python, etc. 
  • Fabrication equipment, such as 3D printers, laser cutter, waterjet, etc.
  • Electro-mechanical fabrications tools and processes
  • Lab safety procedures

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
