SUMMARY:  Provides prescribed medical treatment and patient care services.


Escorts patient to the room, preps charts, and gathers information for immediate needs of the patient.  Documents patient problems, performs vital signs, records chief complaint, reviews medications, allergies, and health risk information.  Prepares patients for examination.

Answers patient calls and returns all phone messages within 24 hours (patient, family, pharmacy).

Schedules/reschedules patients’ appointments in IDX; schedules procedures; obtains precertifications and prior authorizations, as needed.

Notifies provider of abnormal X-ray, labs, and follows up with patient appropriately.

Maintains patient flow.  Screens patients for urgency.  Assists other team members and physicians to complete procedures.

Performs procedures efficiently and correctly within scope of practice.

Demonstrates effective communication with patients and coworkers.  Demonstrates teamwork by assisting coworkers and all members of the team with duties requested, and demonstrates initiative to learn additional skills.

Provides front desk coverage, including patient encounter, check-in/check-out of patients, insurance verification, and obtaining prior authorization.

Communicate effectively between physician and Infusion Company for orders pertaining to IV infusion therapy

Coordinate with and provide documentation to Infusion companies to initiate setup for infusion therapy and follow-up with update to physician and patient

Document patient care, transition of care and continuity of care in electronic medical records

Contact lab /imaging facilities to obtain lab/ reports

Infectious disease nurse understands infectious diseases spread from person to person via the air that is breathed or through direct contact and transmission

Infectious disease nurse helps patients who have complicated and difficult infectious diseases that are caused by viral, fungal, or bacterial microorganisms

Infectious disease nurse understands infectious diseases spread from person to person via the air that is breathed or through direct contact and transmission

Infectious disease nurse is responsible for helping with patients who do not respond to treatment

Infectious disease nurse monitors and assists in the prevention of the spread of drug-resistant infections and infectious disease 

Infectious disease nurse helps protect the patient from catching any additional diseases as well

Infectious disease nurse educates the patient who has been diagnosed in regards to prevention of the spread the disease to others as the time of diagnosis, and incubation periods vary according to microorganism. 

Infectious disease nurse administers preventative, therapeutic and travel vaccines

Understands and adheres to Rowan’s compliance standards as they appear in Rowan’s Corporate Compliance, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest policies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in the State of New Jersey is required with one (1) year of experience in a physician office, clinic, hospital setting, or similar institution.  Must be able to work at all site locations on an as-needed basis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Be able to work in a physician office.  Be able to lift less than 10 lbs. of medical equipment.

The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
