Lecturer in Philosophy

 

DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Philosophy and Religion Studies at Rowan University invites applications for a Lecturer in Philosophy, a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure track, renewable faculty teaching position with benefits, to begin September 1, 2018.  Assuming successful recontracting reviews and continued programmatic need, the position is renewable for progressively longer periods of time, for two, three, four, and then five years per contract.  In addition, the position has a promotion path to Senior Lecturer and Master Lecturer.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in Philosophy, with open specialization, and capacity to teach a wide range of undergraduate Philosophy courses. Excellent teaching and communication skills, commitment to undergraduate education, and some scholarly activity required.

 

DUTIES:

Teaching all levels of undergraduate Philosophy courses, including courses in logic, history of philosophy, ethics, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of race; a 4/4 (fall/spring) teaching load is required, with the option to teach overloads and the possibility of teaching summer classes for additional compensation.  In addition to teaching responsibilities, successful candidates will be required to make meaningful and substantive service contributions, including attending monthly departmental meetings, holding regular office hours, advising and mentoring students, and participating in other department, college, and university service at the discretion of the department. In addition, successful candidates are expected to act as advisor to the Rowan Philosophy Club and the Phi Sigma Tau Honor Society in Philosophy; furthermore, successful candidates are desired to coordinate the Department's Lecture Series. Successful candidates will also be expected to participate in professional development to stay current in their content area.
