Rowan University is seeking a talented Web Applications Specialist to join our amazing team of digital experts in producing world-class websites, web applications, and other digital projects. From initial conception through the final delivery in the project lifespan, our developers work closely with multiple groups across the institution to create digital assets that support the mission of our growing University. We’re looking for a team member with 4+ years of experience, who is passionate about discovering new technologies, knows how to research and implement eloquent solutions, has an eye for web design, and wants to contribute to creating cutting-edge, student-centered websites. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating, coding, modifying and supporting web content elements that support the University's strategies, goals, and online presence.
  • Maintaining and extending content management systems, including but not limited to Drupal and Cascade.
  • Coordinating standards of image/message consistency, usability and technical compliance for all official Rowan University websites.
  • Collaborating and coordinating with external vendors.
  • Researching and implementing the latest industry web standards and best practices
  • Conducting testing and quality assurance of own work and/or the work of others.
  • Providing one-on-one support and training to internal users of the Rowan University website and/or content management systems.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to co-workers.
  • Assist in developing and implementing web-based special projects and targeted recruitment and retention campaigns.


All applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • A 4-year degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in web development and/or other technical development.
  • Expert understanding of front-end and back-end web development using the following technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript.
  • Ability to interact with end users, stakeholders and management (with or without technical skills) to understand business and functional requirements and determine project scopes and specifications.
  • Familiarity with web security best-practices.
  • An understanding of digital marketing principles and analytics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger web development team; solving problems and troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A strong customer service orientation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in web development and/or other technical development.
  • Experience with the following technologies: Java, PHP, SQL, relational database design, jQuery, Bootstrap, Apache Velocity, XSLT, Bash scripting.
  • Extensive LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) environment configuration and maintenance experience.
  • Linux server administration experience, including Apache configuration, shell scripting, and the creation and maintenance of cron jobs.
  • Expert in responsive web design.
  • Experience training and producing end-user documentation.
  • Proficiency with JIRA software development tool.
  • Proficiency with Cascade or Drupal content management systems.

The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, public safety authority, crime reporting policies, fire safety, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
