Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Position Description

 

Position Title:  Director of Admissions, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University

Position Summary:  The Director of Admissions oversees all aspects of the admissions process involved in the recruitment of students for Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU).  These include, but are not limited to, the areas of staffing and staff recruitment, budget, record keeping, policies and procedures, application screening, LCME accreditation/reaccreditation, the Admissions Committee, information technology, student recruitment, and other miscellaneous functions.  Specific responsibilities of this position related to each of these area are further detailed below.  The Director of Admissions reports to the Associate Dean for Admissions. 

Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the Associate Dean for Admissions, the Director of Admissions is responsible for oversight of all aspects of the admissions process, including:

1. Staffing/staff recruitment:

  • The Director of Admissions assists in recruitment of staff for the Office of Admissions (as necessary), including service on search committees
  • The Director of Admissions assists in the orientation and training of new hires (in the Office of Admissions or in other areas within the medical school) on matters related to operation of the Office of Admissions

2. Budget:

  • The Director of Admissions assists in the development and management of the budget for the Office of Admissions

3. Record keeping:

  • The Director of Admissions maintains records (electronic and/or paper) related to all aspects of the admissions process
  • The Director of Admissions prepares reports pertaining to admissions data for faculty, staff, administration, and outside individuals/parties, as is appropriate

4. Policies and procedures:

  • The Director of Admissions assists in the development and revision of all policies and procedures related to the admissions process and the operation of the Admissions Committee

5. Application screening:

  • The Director of Admissions participates in the screening of applications for admission to CMSRU

6. LCME accreditation/reaccreditation

  • The Director of Admissions participates in the LCME accreditation/reaccreditation process, including preparation of documents, attendance at preparatory meetings, and participation in on-site inspections, as necessary

7. Admissions Committee

  • The Director of Admissions serves as a liaison to the Admissions Committee, providing support to the Chair and other members of the committee, as necessary

8.  Information technology

  • The Director of Admissions assists in the development and updating of the CMSRU website, specifically those sections pertaining to Admissions
  • The Director of Admissions serves as an IT liaison between CMRSU and Rowan University
  • The Director of Admissions serves as an IT liaison between CMSRU and outside vendors

9. Student recruitment

  • The Director of Admissions serves as a liaison between CMSRU and outside educational institutions and specifically will identify and establish working relationships with health care advisors from feeder schools, visit colleges and universities and participate in health profession fairs and open houses (as necessary), and assist in preparation of recruitment materials
  • The Director of Admissions serves as a liaison between CMSRU and various pipeline programs (both internal and external) and assists in the preparation and revision of articulation agreements associated with these programs

10. Miscellaneous

  • The Director of Admissions participates in other miscellaneous activities (not specified above) relevant to the Office of Admissions, as necessary
  • The Director of Admissions contributes broadly to CMSRU as a member of the director level leadership team and, as requested, works on projects, problems, task forces, committees, etc. that may be outside the scope of the Office of Admissions
  • The Director of Admissions provides support (as necessary) for other CMSRU student-related activities and organizations

Requirements:

Education:  

  • Master’s degree required

Experience: 

  • Minimum of two years’ experience with admissions, pre-health advising, and/or working with students in a medical school environment

Qualifications:  The Director of Admissions should:

  • Understand and uphold the provisions of the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), including the confidentiality of information contained within applications
  • Possess a working knowledge of the American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS) and the process of applying for medical school admission
  • Understand and maintain compliance with all timelines related to the admissions process
  • Possess a working knowledge of requirements for admission to CMSRU, including technical standards and their relation to applicants with disabilities
  • Possess a working knowledge of all CMSRU pipeline programs/articulation agreements related to admissions
  • Possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills necessary for effective, professional interaction with students, faculty, staff, administration, and outside individuals/institutions
  • Foster a culture of respect and teamwork through collaborative interaction with other offices and departments in CMSRU and with other Rowan colleges
  • Support diversity/inclusion activities at CMSRU
  • Understand the concept of implicit/unconscious bias and recognize their own personal biases
  • Support programming that enhances the academic environment at CMSRU or that supports the Camden/southern NJ community
  • Possess the ability to work in an independent fashion, while at the same time recognizing their own personal limitations and knowing when to ask for assistance and direction
  • Maintain flexibility in their work schedule to accommodate the needs of the Office of Admissions

The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
