SUMMARY

The Recovery Specialist provides peer support using their own unique, life-altering experience in order to guide and support others who are in recovery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

1. Work with individuals to support and strengthen their capacity to engage in their personal recovery.

2. Collaborate with the client in the development of the client’s recovery plan which will be one component of the overall care plan.

3. Provide recovery support services based on the individual’s preference and his or hers assessed needs and support individuals as they move through the stages of change. Assist individuals

4. Assist individuals with accessing recovery support services in the community.

5. Be a positive role model by sharing experience, knowledge, hope, and skills.

6. Maintain relationships with the individual in order to assist him/her in the treatment engagement and retention process.

7. Reinforce, guide, and assure the individual that recovery is possible and is built on multiple strengths, coping abilities, and the resources of each induvial. 

8. Assist the individual in gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery.

9. Assist in in creating and sustaining a social and physical environment that is supportive of recovery.

10. Enhance identification with and participation in the recovery community and empower individuals to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their recovery pathway.

11. Provide support in face-to-face meetings and/or telephone support based on the individual’s preference.

12. Help individuals maintain healthy community, family and social connections.

13. Provide training to individuals on recognizing relapse triggers and strategies to deal with avoiding a relapse.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must demonstrate peer support having a minimum of two (2) years of recovery. Must be able to travel. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must complete Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services training program. Must have two years minimum recovery. May be required to follow a varied schedule which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.  May be required to possess a valid driver’s license.

The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
