The Department of Mathematics at Rowan University is seeking to hire a 10-month Tenure-Track Faculty Position with an appointment to begin on September 1st, 2026.
The Department of Mathematics is specifically interested in candidates who will develop a research program in the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence and data science, including areas such as probability, linear algebra, optimization, statistical learning theory, the mathematics of quantum computing, mathematical modeling of algorithms, and theoretical aspects of AI and machine learning. However, outstanding candidates with research programs outside of these areas may also be considered.
A Ph.D. or equivalent in Data Science, Mathematics Statistics, or a closely related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record and/or potential to establish and sustain a strong research program. We anticipate hiring at the Assistant Professor level, but outstanding candidates may be considered at the Associate or Full Professor levels. The successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, highly visible, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the various service endeavors in the Department, College, and University. Opportunities for research collaboration exist within the Department, as well as with the College of Science & Mathematics, Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Rowan Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, and others.
The Department of Mathematics is one of six departments in the College of Science & Mathematics, which is also home to the School of Earth & Environment. It is a dynamic and rapidly growing unit offering undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a B.A., B.S., and M.A. in Mathematics, as well as a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Data Science (jointly with the Department of Computer Science). We also contribute to multiple degree programs across campus and serve nearly 6,000 students each year. Faculty in the department lead active, externally funded research programs, build strong partnerships with industry, and collaborate broadly across disciplines. We are dedicated to sustaining a vibrant research culture while offering transformative educational experiences for our students.
