Responsibilities:

Responsible to the Director of Athletics:

  • Work under direction of Head Softball Coach relating to the softball program.

Organization and administration of the softball program:

  • Develop and maintain a softball program that is competitive within the conference, region and Nation
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the NJAC and NCAA
  • Conduct planned, organized practice sessions
  • Scout opponents, review film when appropriate
  • Assist with team travel plans as requested
  • Submit budget requests when necessary
  • Provide information, as requested, to the Director of Athletic Communications
  • Attend conference coaches' meetings and press conferences when requested in absence of head coach
  • Communicate and work with the Compliance Officer in monitoring student athletes academic progress
  • Assist with video input, organization, and analysis of the game and practice footage.
  • Assist with field maintenance and game field preparations
  • Responsible to assist with the care and distribution of equipment in conjunction with the Equipment Manager
  • Assist with fund-raising activities within department and university guidelines to supplement program needs
  • Submit reports and other paperwork as requested by the Athletics Director or designee
  • Develop a knowledge of and adhere to NCAA and NJAC rules and regulations
  • Keep abreast of current and new coaching trends by attending clinics, workshops, and conferences when appropriate. 

Organization and administration of recruitment and retention program:

  • Develop an effective communication/recruitment program with prospective student athletes
  • Establish and maintain recruiting database
  • Develop contacts with appropriate club, secondary school and junior college coaches
  • Develop a positive working relationship with the Admissions Office
  • Submit recruitment forms/logs as periodically requested by the Athletics Director
  • Develop an effective retention program for Student athletes in conjunction with the Athletic Academic Advisor and Academic Support Services

Public relations related activities:

  • Develop an effective communications network with University faculty, administration and staff
  • Cultivate a working relationship with the Alumni Office
  • Develop a strong base of alumni and friends of the program
  • Communicate and speak to high school, professional and community organizations when requested

Additional professional responsibilities:

  • Attend post-season, special recognition events with students.
  • Assist with game management as assigned 
  • Participate in the national coaches' associations related to your field
  • Become active in committee work when appropriate at the local, regional and national levels
  • Game management as assigned
  • Facility supervision during open times and when needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Master's Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with college athletes and administrators
  • One (1) year of professional experience
  • Strong background in teaching softball, strong pitching background preferred
  • Ability to organize an effective recruitment and retention program for student-athletes
  • Knowledge of and strict adherence to NCAA and NJAC rules and regulations

Term of Appointment:

  • 12 Months, Annual Contract

The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.
