This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.

Director of Compensation, Office of Human Resources

Job Summary:

The Director of Compensation reports to the Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer and is responsible for managing the compensation function for the university. The Director of Compensation plans, develops and implements compensation programs, policies and procedures to align with the university's goals.  This position also ensures that university compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development, implementation and administration of compensation programs.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommends changes that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and university objectives.
  • Conducts job analysis to create job descriptions of university positions.
  • Uses external comparisons, internal equity, survey data, and candidate qualifications to determine and authorize appropriate hire rates.
  • Develops techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting data.
  • Provides advice on pay decisions, policy interpretations, and job evaluations.
  • Collects and analyzes market salary information through online tools and benchmarking studies.
  • Participates in salary surveys and monitors salary survey data.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations.
  • Conducts internal equity reviews and recommends action plan.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business, human resources or related field and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in employee compensation.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations as they apply to compensation, especially NJ Equal Pay Act.
  • Compensation certification (CCP) preferred.
  • Experience with labor contracts preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of all federal, state and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation.
  • Previous higher education and/or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of job analysis, evaluation and documentation.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and online market pricing tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with senior management.
