The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University Residential Facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.

Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person hired to an exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York or have ninety (90) days from the date of employment to establish, then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York.

Job Description

Job Title: Billing Technician    

Department: Central Business Office      

Facility: School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM)                   

Reports To: Billing Office Supervisor        

 

SUMMARY: Under direction, organizes assigned work, and develops effective work methods. Requires knowledge of departmental regulations, policies, and procedures. Responsible for electronic posting of payments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following:

  • Works with the I.S.&T. Department in the testing and acceptance of new electronic remits.
  • Recommends to their supervisor the allocation of daily work in the event of staffing shortages or an increased workload.
  • Trains new staff members in established electronic and non-electronic payment posting processes.
  • Completes payment batches on a daily basis and maintains an accurate accounting of their work and monitors the flow of the work through the system.
  • Downloads and posts electronic remittance files to patient accounts.
  • Resolves issues either internally or with insurance companies involving problem accounts.
  • Reviews and certifies reports and other documents for correctness.
  • Compiles, tabulates, and interprets needed data and statistics as required using manual worksheets as well as Microsoft Excel.
  • Handles telephone communications between parties. Communicates with office regarding various issues.
  • Prepares University forms and communications as necessary with the appropriate departments for the purpose of adhering to University policies.
  • Understands and adheres to Rowan’s compliance standards as they appear in Rowan’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or/ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: At least (5) years of prior office experience required, preferably in a physician billing office. Additionally, the position requires at least three years of experience posting payments electronically. Excellent data-entry skills required. Experience using Microsoft Excel preferred. Word processing skills preferred.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
