This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Department of Public Safety.

Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. SUMMARY:

The Application Specialist will be responsible for supporting the technological needs of all events sponsored by the Simulation Center.  Oversight will include simulation-relevant software platforms, audiovisual recording and presentation equipment, computer systems, and applicable servers and networks, in addition to the interfacing of these individual technologies.  Responsibility will include events running both in-center and remotely.  While reporting to the Medical Director, this individual will interface closely with various equipment vendors and RowanSOM Technology divisions, including (but not limited to): Technology Services, Infrastructure Services, Information Security Office and Analytics, Systems & Applications to diagnose/address technical issues as they arise, and work to implement long-term solutions to prevent future technical issues. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides simulation-relevant software platform support, including CAE LearningSpace and Laerdal LLEAP.  Involves event setup, case configuration, data management, and end-user support including faculty, staff, standardized patients, and students.
  • Provides audiovisual recording and presentation equipment support, including but not limited to cameras, speakers, microphones, display monitors, projectors, and conferencing equipment.  Involves equipment setup and end-user support.
  • Troubleshoots software and hardware equipment failures related to Simulation Center-sponsored events, including live activities and remote learning; serves as a liaison between RowanSOM IRT and technology suppliers to identify/repair issues and optimize event management. 
  • Supports Simulation Center standardized patient and simulation events as requested, including but not limited to operating audiovisual recording equipment and human patient simulator operation.
  • Under guidance of the Director, assists with extraction of event data and creation of reports. 
  • Under guidance of the Simulation Specialist, assists with human patient simulator repair and maintenance. 
  • Develops training materials for faculty, students, and staff regarding the responsible operation of simulation technologies.  Involves learning and adopting best practices in LearningSpace and promoting to faculty and staff.
  • Conducts regular maintenance of simulation technologies, including assuring all equipment is maintained in good working order and upgraded/updated/replaced as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.  1 to 3 years of experience in the use or support of desktop computing.  Relevant experience may be substituted for a college degree on a year for year basis.
  • 1+ years of experience working in medical simulation (preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience working in higher education or medical education (preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience working in a healthcare-related profession (preferred).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent technical skills with experience working with software applications relevant to simulation, digital/computer hardware equipment, and related multimedia (audio/visual) peripherals; ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge-set in the areas of software application support, networking, network security, server administration, and desktop support for effective communication with vendors and other RowanSOM Technology divisions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to create effective written documentation and training materials.
  • Physical demands will vary based on the simulation activity; must exhibit the sensory abilities to function in low-light/low-sound settings and have the mobility/strength to install/maintain/repair varied technologic equipment (i.e. computers, cameras, speakers, etc.).
  • Must be flexible to work other shifts as needed; occasional evening/weekend or early morning work may be required.

 

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
