Associate Director for Program Development and Academic Innovation

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Academic Innovation, the Associate Director for Program Development and Academic Innovation serves as an integral member of the Office of Academics and Outreach team in the Division of Global Learning and Partnerships. The Associate Director for Program Development and Academic Innovation will play a key role in program development at the University. This position will be responsible for researching new noncredit and for-credit opportunities, generating reports outlining new program opportunities, and exploring professional development credentials. This role will be the engine for generating ideas for noncredit, industry, and academic program development.

In concert with the Academics and Outreach team, the Associate Director for Program Development and Academic Innovation will act as a liaison with academic departments across the University to establish and manage productive relationships regarding program development. This role will work closely with the Academics and Outreach department to conduct internal and external research to determine potential programs. The Associate Director for Program Development and Academic Innovation will create presentations, proposals, and reports for various academic and administrative departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the AVP of Academic Innovation, Director of Executive Education and External Affairs, Director of Academics and Outreach, and others to research, plan implement, and manage innovative programs, grants, services, and processes in areas that meet strategic priorities.
  • Develops methods to track and measure the performance of short- and long-term goals.
  • Facilitates program development and offerings with community college partners.
  • Works closely with the Director of Executive Education and External Affairs and the Director of Academics and Outreach to expand the University’s relationship with industry partners, community college partners, and prospective corporate partners.
  • Partners with faculty and staff, Career Education, and Community Advancement to identify areas for developing noncredit courses and certificates, focusing on short-term vocational and workforce preparation programs.
  • Interacts with the broader community, including educational partners, and community business partners, to identify local needs, emerging labor market demands, and areas for potential growth in noncredit programming, especially in areas of short-term vocational and workforce preparation; collaborates with other college administrators to expand and build noncredit programs.
  • Conducts internal and external research to bring community needs for for-credit and noncredit programs to the attention of Rowan University.
  • Uses statistical studies and data to conduct assessments for new program development opportunities.
  • Creates program presentations, proposals, and reports that could be shared with academic departments, committees and other offices and presents findings.
  • Develops and implements program policies and procedures to ensure educational and economic effectiveness and operational efficiency of noncredit programs and related services.
  • Helps to facilitate the academic program creation process.
  • Monitors Rowan University program offerings, current, and pipeline, to ensure non-duplication.
  • Develops and manages programmatic events and workshops within Academic Outreach.
  • Keep current on the latest trends in Ed-tech, entrepreneurship, incubation in education, tech platforms, and the future of teaching and learning.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a higher education setting or related field.
  • Experience in Program Development within a higher education institution with multiple schools and colleges.
  • Experience with research, assessment, and data analysis and reporting techniques.
  • Experience with all Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and facilitate several projects and deadlines independently, while building collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities

Preferred:

  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and good judgment regarding important business and employee relations matters.
  • Experience working with data research companies and fielding research requests.
  • Experience using academic and University systems, such as Banner, Canvas, and OnBase.
  • Experienced in planning, organizing, developing, and evaluating programs, activities, and curriculum to meet students’ needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with evidence of effective interactions with senior administrators, campus partners, and other constituents.
