Emergency/Urgent Care Veterinarian – Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University
Work type: Regular Full-Time OR part time
Location: Glassboro, New Jersey
Categories: School of Veterinary Medicine
Position Summary:
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University is seeking full and part-time Emergency/Urgent Care faculty to join our program as part of our inaugural veterinary program and teaching hospital. Selected candidates will be integral in the development of the companion animal emergency/critical care (ECC) service housed within our new Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, currently slated for completion in July 2025 in Harrison Township, NJ and planned opening in the fall. The hospital is located 1.5 miles from our main Glassboro campus.
The ECC service will operate 24/7 and is responsible for small animal emergency cases including intake, management of hospitalized patients, and of the isolation facilities located within ECC. The new teaching hospital is designed to accommodate primary care and multiple specialty departments including anesthesia, diagnostic imaging (GE Revolution Ascend 128-slice CT and GE Signa Hero 3T MRI), dentistry and oral surgery, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, cardiology, exotics, dermatology, and surgery, and a full pharmacy with sterile compounding capabilities. The veterinary teaching hospital will function as a fully operational primary care and referral center and will be staffed appropriately to provide support and balance to both clinical and educational responsibilities. Our top priorities are delivering excellent patient care and training graduates who are competent, confident, and ready from day one.
This position supports an important clinical service in the veterinary teaching hospital and significantly contributes to both client satisfaction and revenue generation. The selected candidates will be responsible for providing emergency care to small animals and pet exotics– including intake, treatment, emergency procedures and/or soft tissue surgeries, and the management of the hospitalized patients. They will have direct responsibility for teaching and evaluation of veterinary students, interns, and residents in the clinical setting. Teaching veterinary students within the pre-clinical years and coordination of hands-on training experiences are essential components of the role. They will demonstrate commitment to a positive practice culture and values aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the SSVM.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated expertise in caring for small animals in an emergency/urgent care setting. Although prior experience with exotic emergencies is not required, the candidate should be willing to learn and see exotics through the emergency service.
These positions are open-rank and candidates are eligible for appointment at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor roles, either in a clinical or tenure track, based upon qualifications and professional goals. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
