The Wellness Center at Rowan University serves students in ways that support and affirm all their abilities and identities.  Our ideal candidate possesses an understanding of intersectionality and how it impacts the daily lives of students.

Under the direction of the Wellness Center Director and the Managing Physician, the Charge Nurse will function as a leader of the health care team in providing acute health care services to Rowan University students year round.  

Candidates must be flexible to meet the needs of the Center during the weekday, evenings, and occasional weekends. The Charge Nurse will assist in several campus-wide health promotion initiatives, health education programs, and research and quality improvement activities. The Charge Nurse is responsible for staff nurse supervision, scheduling, professional development, and clinical operations for student health services. Oversight of the clinical laboratory, regulated medical waste program, NJ sentinel influenza surveillance program, ordering supplies, and medication. 

In addition to the above job duties, the successful candidate will triage and assess the health care needs of students, assist the physicians and nurse practitioner with evaluations and treatment of students, and provide health education. The candidate will consult with physicians and other members of the health care team, and make referrals as needed. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BN).

  • Current and valid New Jersey license as a Professional Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Current CPR-Healthcare provider level.

  • 5 years clinical experience as RN

Skills:

  • Must possess competencies in RN clinical skills including:

    •  point of care testing

    •  understanding and following standing orders created by the medical director

    •  health promotion education

    •  critical thinking, interpersonal skills

    •  multicultural care

    •  leadership and a commitment to ongoing professional development

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • College health experience.

  • Emergency, urgent, or primary care experience.

  • 2 years management/leadership experience recommended.

  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Salary:

  • In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is CWA: Range 22 ($67,312-$76,669)

Residency Requirements

Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person hired to an exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York or have ninety (90) days from the date of employment to establish, then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York.

Note on STEM-OPT Employment
Please note that STEM OPT employment is not permitted at Rowan University. To be eligible for a STEM OPT extension, the student's employer must be registered in E-Verify and must use the system to verify all new employees. While Rowan University is registered in the E-Verify system, the University does not use the system to verify all new employees, only those that are working on a Federal Contract. This means that Rowan does not permit individuals to work at the University using a STEM OPT Employment Authorization Document as proof of US Work Authorization.

Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available on the Rowan University Police Department (RUPD), Clery Act webpage here. 

The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as crime prevention, RUPD authority/jurisdiction, crime reporting policies, fire safety, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security on all our campuses. The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University on-campus student housing facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years, including reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act or the "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Police Department.
