Security Administrator, PSS2

Joining Rowan University's Security Operations department as a Security Analyst, you will play a pivotal role as a security subject matter expert, driving essential projects and implementations related to vulnerability management. Reporting directly to the Director of Security Operations, your primary focus will revolve around ensuring robust vulnerability management practices. Additionally, you will also engage with Rowan's Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), endpoint protection management, and incident response initiatives, making this a dynamic and impactful role at the forefront of safeguarding the university's digital landscape.

What you get to do:

  • Implement, manage, and maintain the Rowan’s Vulnerability Management suite, ensuring comprehensive vulnerability assessments and continuous monitoring of Rowan's environment.
  • Monitor, identify, investigate, and resolve issues related to potential vulnerabilities within Rowan’s environment.
  • Log ingestion and generation of reports/SOAR playbooks within our SIEM environment, leveraging AI/ML capabilities for advanced correlation and anomaly detection.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and run books with a focus on security and automation.

We are looking for people who have:

  • Master's degree in a related discipline or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a security operations setting with a deep understanding of  Vulnerability Management and SIEM operations.
  • Proven ability to onboard and normalize logs within SIEM environments; Sentinel experience highly desirable. 
  • Experience with AI/ML tools in an information security environment is highly desirable.
  • Knowledgeable about vulnerability assessment methodologies and best practices to effectively identify and prioritize security risks.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) to automate security tasks and log ingestion.
  • Experience in incident response processes and threat hunting using SIEM tools.
  • Capable of analyzing reports to identify trends, patterns, and potential security threats, facilitating proactive remediation efforts.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including security analysts, IT administrators, and management, to communicate vulnerability findings and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to compliance and regulatory requirements related to vulnerability management and reporting.
  • Detailed knowledge of networking fundamentals as well as Microsoft, macOS and Linux systems in order to effectively manage security concerns.
  • Understanding of industry best practices surrounding proper maintenance and support of an environment requiring 24x7 availability.
  • Ability to read and create comprehensive Visio diagrams.

Nice to have:

  • Experience deploying and managing Tenable (Nessus, Tenable One, Tenable.io, or Tenable.sc) for vulnerability scanning and remediation workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Sentinel and the Defender suite of security tools.
  • Querying experience with Microsoft KQL.
  • Advanced firewall experience (Palo Alto ”Panorama/Wildfire”, Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper, etc.).
  • Security certifications like Security+, CISSP, CISM.
  • Higher Education work experience.
  • Desktop support (Tier 1 & 2) and networking experience.

Salary & Benefits:

  • In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 24 ($73,899 to $92,367), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors. 

For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).

  • For eligible employees, benefits include: comprehensive NJ State health, dental and retirement benefits, extensive accrued time off/paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement for employee, spouse, and dependents to attend Rowan University, Glassboro. (Tuition reimbursement will apply to undergraduate degrees only for spouse and dependents).
