Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position is the designated leader on the Women’s Volleyball program and will be charged with oversight, program leadership, recruitment/retention, student-athletes experience, administration and ensuring a winning culture on and off the court.
Head Coaching Responsibilities:
Program Leadership:
• Provides leadership and supervision in all aspects of the program including recruitment, retention, budget, academic support, compliance, practice preparation, game strategy, alumni development, fundraising and student-athlete experience
• Develop and maintain a program of excellence and integrity that is competitive and leads to success in both conference and independent play
• Implement and execute structured and organized practice sessions
• Develop practice schedules, teach fundamental skills and properly train and condition student-athletes in preparation for competition
• Develop, organize, and coordinate fundraising initiatives and summer camps/clinics to enhance the program’s brand and financial sustainability
• Coordinate annual events, in-game recognition, etc. to enhance alumni engagement and stewardship
• Adhere to NCAA, conference, departmental, and university policies, procedures, and expectations
• Ensure university admissions policies, academic standards and financial aid procedures are upheld
• Establish and maintain a culture of excellence, engagement and excitement
• Attend annual professional development workshops, seminars and/or conferences to enhance overall coaching and leadership skills
Recruitment:
• Develop a strategic and well-thought-out recruitment and retention program
• Ensure the assemblance of a full and competitive competition roster
• Visit high school, professional and community organizations when requested
• Maximize the opportunities in the transfer portal
• Hire, develop, supervise and retain high-caliber assistant coaches
• Identify out-of-state pipelines and club connections to bolster roster
• Develop strong recruiting pipelines with top high schools and junior college programs
• Implement an annual evaluation and assessment of the recruiting/retention program
Student-Athlete Experience
• Design, monitor and support student-athletes’ personal development programs and progress with respect to their academic, athletic, and personal enrichment
• Generate and establish student engagement
• Develop and maintain a strong team culture
• Implement team building activities
• Ensure two student-athletes serve as the team’s liaison in SAAC
Administration
• Ensure fiscal management for the sport program
• Establish effective, cross-collaborative relationships within the Department of Athletics and across university platforms
• Maintain an effective communications network with university faculty, administration and staff
• Develop a positive working relationship with the Admissions Office
• Organize team’s competition schedule and travel plans
• Attend all department meetings
• Serve as liaison with designated department administrator on facility preparation and
• Work closely with all support areas within Athletics
Key Additional Responsibilities:
• Work closely with University Human Resource, Procurement and other campus departments as assigned
• Responsible to know current NCAA, Conference, and University rules, regulations, and deadlines governing Athletic sports.
• Adhere to NCAA, conference, departmental, and university policies, procedures, and expectations
• Establish and maintain a culture of excellence personally and within your respective unit(s)

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Strong organizational and managerial skills and experience with multiple units
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with program implementation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to demonstrate flexibility and work with various campus and community programs/partners
• Experience in the field of athletics and ideally athletic academic success.
• Flexible schedule includes evenings and weekends.
• Possess excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrates ability and willingness to work as a team member and to work independently
• Problem-solver with the initiative and follow-through skills; tact, diplomacy, and judgement in dealing with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
• Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population.
• Experience as a unit director with budget oversight knowledge/experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of developmental academic advising methodologies.
Salary: In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 24, ($73,899.91to $84,980.25), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.
For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).
