A postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Manvich to study the neurobiological mechanisms by which psychosocial stress and drugs of abuse interact to dysregulate brain function and behavior. A major focus of these NIH-funded studies is to employ innovative and unique behavioral paradigms in combination with neural circuit interrogation and manipulation strategies to identify the brain circuits that mediate drug-seeking behavior elicited selectively by psychosocial stress. We utilize a variety of approaches including neuroanatomical tract tracing, immunohistochemical analysis of whole-brain neural activation patterns, chemogenetic manipulation of neural activity, i.v. self-administration of psychostimulants and opioids, drug discrimination procedures, and a unique operant-behavioral model of relapse in which drug seeking is triggered by psychosocial stress.

The successful applicant will have recently earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or a related discipline, must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate a strong track record of scientific communication and publication. Experience in conducting behavioral studies in rodents (particularly operant-conditioning procedures), immunohistochemistry, and/or chemogenetics/optogenetics is especially desirable. We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, organized, and able to work both independently and as part of a collective team environment.

Dr. Manvich’s laboratory is located in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Our department contains an interactive and expanding group of investigators whose research programs encompass topics in systems neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neurophysiology, and behavioral pharmacology, and whose research efforts span basic, translational, and clinical studies. The Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine is located in Stratford, NJ; 20 minutes from Philadelphia, 1 hour from the Atlantic Ocean, and 2 hours from New York City.
