The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University is seeking an equine/large animal veterinarian to join our program’s large animal ambulatory service based out of our Glassboro, NJ campus. The selected candidate will provide comprehensive routine and emergency care to primarily equine patients.  While a smaller portion of our caseload, willingness to provide emergency care to other large animal species (small ruminants, camelids, pet pigs, cattle) in the field setting as part of on shared on-call responsibilities is required. Successful candidates will have demonstrated expertise in equine practice through a minimum (2) years of relevant practice experience and/or completion of a related internship or residency program. Practice management skills such as a working knowledge of the operations of ambulatory service and ability to effectively manage support staff are preferred.  Responsibility for providing after-hours emergency coverage will be shared across members of the service.

The successful candidate(s) will advance the academic mission of the School through their contributions to clinical service and instruction of DVM students, veterinary technology students, and house officers on field service rotations. This opening is for a Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, or Clinical Associate Professor role (rank commensurate with experience).  While research and classroom instruction are not an integral component of clinical track roles, we welcome candidates interested in contributing to the research and teaching mission of the institution.  Specifically, participation in clinical skills teaching of DVM students during their pre-clinical years is expected of clinicians on all services, and teaching clinical DVM students on clerkships is a significant focus of the role. 

The selected candidate(s) must hold the following:

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Minimum of two (2+) years of experience in equine, or equine and large animal ambulatory practice or completion of an equine or large animal internship program
  • Advanced training or experience in Equine Sports Medicine preferred (but not required)
  • Currently licensed in or eligible for licensure in NJ
  • NJ CDS permit or obtained upon hire
  • DEA registration or obtained upon hire
  • NJ USDA Level II Accreditation or completion of required training upon hire
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License

The salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The RowanSVM large animal field service covers Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem Counties in Southern New Jersey.  As such, veterinarians in this position who dedicate at least 16 hours per week serving dairy cattle, poultry, and small ruminants are eligible to apply for an available USDA Veterinary Medical Loan Repayment Program position (NJ232).  Applicants awarded a VMLRP position are eligible for up to $25k per year paid toward applicable student loan balances.   More information is available at https://www.nifa.usda.gov/nj232.
