Open Rank Lecturer Positions in Sports Communication & Media
Rowan University’s Sports Communication & Media Program (Sports CaM) welcomes applications for multiple full-time, non-tenure-track lecturers to start on September 1, 2024. Lecturers are 10-months full-time, non-tenure track teaching faculty. Successful candidates will teach a total of 24 credits over two semesters, with an option to teach overload and summer classes for additional compensation. Lecturer positions are renewable, with expectations for continuing renewal of two, three, four, and then five years per contract.
Housed in the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts (Edelman CCCA), Sports CaM is one of the largest degree programs of its kind in the United States. We seek innovative, interdisciplinary colleagues to help us continue growing while also providing our students with practical training and thoughtful pedagogy. Ideal candidates will understand sports as an intersection of popular culture and mass media that can be a fulfilling profession and an educational opportunity to address critical issues in contemporary society. They will have expertise across a range of topics related to the teaching, study, and practice of sports communication and media. These might include but are not limited to professional experience in journalism, social media, broadcast, studio production, branding, or data analytics. Candidates are expected to have:
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity through teaching and/or professional experience, as well as a strong interest in areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- A master’s, doctorate, or other advanced degree in a related field with a conferral date no later than July 1, 2024
- A successful record of teaching at the college level.
- A passion for sports and for teaching the next generation of sports media and communication professionals, scholars, and thought leaders.
Candidates should be capable of exceptional teaching and curriculum development in two or more of the following topic areas of sport: advertising/branding campaigns, anchoring, betting, broadcasting (live/in-studio), data analytics, documentary video, event planning, fan relations, front office/management, identity and representation (i.e.: gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQIA+, ability, religion).journalism, marketing, media law, media literacy, organizational communication, philanthropy, photojournalism, podcasting, rhetoric, station management, social media, student media, TV/radio production.
Sports CaM is an interdisciplinary B.A. program with faculty from four of the six departments in Edelman CCCA: Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations & Advertising, and Radio, Television & Film. Home departments of successful candidates will be determined based on areas of expertise and fit. The positions require participation in committee and student service activities, including development of curriculum and strategic development of the Sports CaM major.
Edelman CCCA’s goal is to empower people to be storytellers, artists, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens. The college serves nearly 1900 majors through eleven B.A.s, two B.F.A.s, and three M.A.s. Additionally, we house first-year writing, public speaking, and the writing center, which serve all Rowan students. We are also home to the Rowan University Art Gallery, Rowan Radio WGLS 89.7-FM, the Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication, the Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact and the George Family Center for Healing Arts.
