Recruitment and Retention Specialist Position, College of Education 

Description:

The College of Education at Rowan University is seeking a full-time College of Education Recruitment and Retention Specialist. The focus of the position is to serve as the liaison between the College of Education, P-12 Schools, and the Office of Admissions. The successful candidate will have a philosophy guided by a commitment to diversity, social justice, and equity.  

Recruitment Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with CED Liaison in the Office of Admission to support recruitment-wide activities and projects related to undergraduate student outreach for underrepresented populations
  • Recruit also high school males of color for the Project Increasing Male Practitioners and Classroom Teachers (IMPACT) program from the inquiry stage through matriculation
  • Facilitate the development and management of the annual Teacher Preparation Academy network to build a pipeline of future educators
  • Participate in New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) annual recruitment fair focused on graduate education in collaboration with Rowan Global Learning and Partnership

Retention Responsibilities

  • Track activities, and collect and analyze student data to show progress towards recruitment and retention goals
  • Communicate with college leadership, faculty and staff to develop, implement, evaluate, and continually refine strategies for strengthening College of Education’s commitment to address shortages and diversify the teacher workforce
  • Provide coaching and mentoring of Project IMPACT students; identify, define and address program participants’ needs and assist in planning and organizing Project IMPACT student activities (e.g., high school information sessions, professional conferences, monthly mentoring meetings, milestone ceremonies etc.)
  • Develop and disseminate annual reports on the College’s DEI goals
  • Collaborate with and serve as the primary point person to academic support offices (e.g., Admissions, Academic Success Center, Rowan Global Learning Partnerships, Registrar, ASCEND etc.) to support College of Education students

Undergraduate/Graduate Student Support and Outreach Efforts

  • Co-lead/facilitate welcome back and social events for CED students (e.g., Ice-cream social, research fair, other student support initiatives) including the Education Expo, Teacher Prep Fair, and Induction Ceremony) with the Office of Educator Support and Partnerships
  • Provide oversight for CED Student clubs’ activities
    • serve as the point person for all CED faculty advisors and student leaders (questions, concerns, communications, etc.);
    • ensure CED representation at the annual Student Organization Fairs and meet regularly to plan CED-related activities with the Student Government Association (SGA) student rep from SGA, and 
    • lead the College of Education Student Advisory Council (COESAC) to include undergraduate and graduate student ambassadors
  • Lead College’s Student Open Houses, Accepted Student Day, Research Day, Honors College events in collaboration with the university academic support offices and CED departments (Move to Michael Fromm, Events Coordinator)

Develop and facilitate strategic initiatives to support student success and wellbeing for undergraduate and graduate students (e.g., workshops, orientations, fellowships, campus wide resources etc.)

Qualifications include:

  • Earned master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful academic experience in a k-12 or higher education setting
  • Knowledge and experience in the development, implementation, and management of access, outreach and/or educational partnership-related programs
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate across multiple entities with various stakeholders (e.g. prospective students, parents, school counselors and administrators, university admission representatives, university administrators)
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, social justice, and equity in teacher education 
  • Strategic thinking with operational excellence
  • Exceptional ability to influence and build strong relationships with partners internally and externally
