Assistant Dean, University College 

University College at Rowan University, established fall 2024, is seeking an Assistant Dean to provide strategic and operational effectiveness for enhancing student learning and equitable outcomes. 

About University College 

Designed to ensure pathways for students’ unique journeys, University College houses student-success-focused academic programs and courses and provides academic support and career-readiness services to all Rowan students. University College serves as a hub and catalyst for student success efforts across the University, working collaboratively with academic and co-curricular partners for institutional change. 

About the Assistant Dean Position 

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of University College, the Assistant Dean will be a full-time administrator and academic leader who will be instrumental in the successful establishment of the College. This academic leader will be intricately involved with new and continuing efforts to boost student success and equitable outcomes for all Rowan students. The Assistant Dean will help to build new opportunities for achievement for students in a variety of paths into, through, and beyond Rowan University. Responsibilities will include: 

  • Establish and lead the Center for Engaged Learning in University College: 

    • Lead University-wide inquiry and improvement for AAC&U’s High-Impact Practices (HIPs) and Experiential Education, with a focus on student equity for access and outcomes.

    • In conjunction with the Office of Career Advancement, academic partners, and co-curricular offices, establish a common vocabulary, infrastructure, and assessment practices to ensure high-quality applied learning experiences for all students, in and out of the classroom. This includes curricular structures where needed. 

    • Develop and promote equitable and accessible opportunities for students in a variety of high-impact practices and experiential education domains. 

  • Lead Early College and Dual-Credit programs: 

    • Serve as the academic leader for the Camden Early College Programs (Camden City School District/Launchpad and LEAP Academy)

      • Support course scheduling, enrollment, transcription, and relationship management for partnerships

      • Serve as point of contact for the Student Success Coordinator at the Camden campus for a variety of planning, operational, and academic issues. 

    • Support the Coordinator for Dual-Credit Programs for credit-based courses taken by high school students at their high schools, and support relationships with partner schools and Rowan academic departments for quality and expansion of programs.

  • Serve as University College academic leadership:

    • College engagement: Contribute to College-wide events such as Homecoming, Orientation, Welcome Week, and College-wide meetings and professional development

    • Curricular processes: Participate in appropriate shared governance regarding curricular processes in University College in conjunction with faculty partners and the University Senate 

    • College-Level Academic Policy Administration: Serve as Dean’s office contact for academic policies (e.g. grade disputes, student complaints, and grade changes)

    • Course and Academic Program Oversight: Contribute to overseeing, planning, assessing, and administering the suite of UNIV courses and the Exploratory and Pre-Business Programs in conjunction with other partners in the College

  • Collaborate on University-wide initiatives and academic processes:

    • Collaborate with partners in the College and across the University to pursue evidence-driven policy and practice change to boost equitable student success 

    • Provide academic leadership for University-wide recurring processes such as Foundation scholarship reviews, Dean’s and President’s Lists, etc. 

  • Other duties as assigned 

Candidate Eligibility: 

  • Required: Full-time teaching professor (any rank) or tenured faculty (any rank) on Rowan University’s Glassboro campus

  • Highly Desired: Experience in leading large-scale projects, involvement in experiential education and faculty development, and evidence of commitment to student success and to diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion 

  • The successful candidate is expected to begin the full-time position in January 2025
