SUMMARY:

Primary responsibility is to administer care management and coordinate activities for the patients, in addition to provide direct patient care, assist provider with procedures, perform in a technical capacity providing support to the Practice Supervisor and Medical Director to best serve the needs of the patient panel and the specialty care teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Contributes to the achievement of excellence in health care to fulfill the mission of the Department.
  • Exhibits strong customer service skills in daily interaction with the public, patients, staff and physicians in the performance of job duties.
  • Provides patient care according to Department policies and procedures as well as with the plan of care.
  • Assist in oversight of Pre-visit planning workflows to ensure care completion prior to visit whenever possible.
  • Participates in planning and evaluation of patient care by communicating all information pertinent to the patient's status.
  • Work with leadership specific to quality measures/outcomes
  • Serves as a primary resource to clinical staff to establish quality goals using information provided by leadership.
  • Assist with managing workflows related to various aspects of patient care including: referrals to specialists, ancillary testing, procedures, and authorization of said patent care.
  • Assist with development of educational resources for patients.
  • Serve as an on-site trainer for CMA staff members.
  • Serve a liaison between consulting physicians, hospitals, ER and other frequently used healthcare resources and the patient and and/or family.
  • Serve as a back-up for the Practice Supervisor as needed specific to core duties and responsibilities.
  • Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures.
  • Assist with maintenance of supplies and equipment, and assists to ensure orderliness of the examination and treatment rooms.
  • Participates in department's Performance Improvement activities.
  • Performs clinical duties of a Certified Medical Assistant.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Completion of an accredited program in medical assisting with a current certification.  Applicants must be able to take temperatures, pulse, blood pressures, and other simple procedures where indicated.  A minimum of two years of experience as a CMA in a specialty practice is required. Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures, equipment and instruments. Proficient in clinical quality assurance, ability to use good judgment, employ critical thinking skills, and the ability to identify and resolve problems.  Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and protocols.
