Learning Systems Administrator (Assistant Director 1)

Overview:

The Learning Systems Administrator is a vital role within the Digital Learning Technologies team in the Online Learning Department in the Rowan Online Division. This position is responsible for advanced management and technical support of Rowan's Canvas learning management system (LMS) and other essential software applications used in the online learning environment. The Administrator ensures these systems perform optimally and reliably, addresses complex technical issues, and provides strategic support for daily operations. The Administrator will play a key role in the research and procurement of future online learning technologies. Additionally, the role involves executing major projects and initiatives, including tasks related to instructional technology and design. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required, with flexible scheduling options available under Rowan University’s Flexible Work Policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer, manage, configure, and maintain the Canvas LMS, Video streaming platforms, and all other online learning technologies to ensure optimal system performance and operational stability.
  • Provide advanced technical support by addressing and resolving complex issues with a high degree of expertise.
  • Oversee daily operations, including system management, updates, troubleshooting, and user support, to ensure seamless functionality.
  • Manage learning technology vendors, including customer service and support relationships, and participate in new technology vendor investigations.
  • Utilize advanced instructional design methodologies to develop and deliver comprehensive training programs on the LMS and related technologies.
  • Support and drive technical and programmatic development for assigned projects and applications.
  • Lead and manage team projects from planning through execution, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements, develop actionable plans, and implement effective solutions.
  • Research and evaluate new online learning technologies and solutions that help Rowan University design and deliver innovative and best in class online courses.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in instructional technology, educational technology, instructional design, or a related field.
  • 5+ years experience related to managing educational technology platforms.
  • Proven experience as a system administrator, particularly with higher education academic Learning Management Systems, video streaming platforms, and other online learning technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate complex technical concepts in a clear, engaging manner to diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a capacity to adapt strategies and solutions to meet varied technical and non-technical needs.
  • Highly self-motivated and resourceful, with proven experience in managing multiple projects and delivering high-quality results.

  • Reports to: Manager of Digital Learning Technologies, Online Learning Department.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Professional training or certification in LMS administration, instructional design, or related areas.
  • Experience providing instructional design services for digital instruction.
  • Experience teaching academic courses online.
  • Experience providing training, support, and instruction for use of software applications and computer.
