Position Summary:
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University (SSVM) is seeking Small Animal Surgery faculty to join our new veterinary program and teaching hospital. The selected candidates will be integral in the development and growth of the Surgery department within our veterinary teaching hospital, currently under construction in Mullica Hill, NJ.
SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including GE SIGNA Hero 3.0T MRI, GE Revolution Ascend Plus 128-Slice CT, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, digital radiology, surgical equipment, arthroscopy equipment and much more. The small animal surgery department consists of three technology-enabled individual operating suites, a dental and oral surgery suite, and a surgical training facility for DVM, resident, and post-graduate veterinary education. The teaching hospital is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments, including anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and oral surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency/critical care, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care, and a full pharmacy with sterile compounding capabilities.
This position supports an important clinical service in the veterinary teaching hospital and significantly contributes to both client satisfaction and revenue generation. The selected candidates will be responsible for providing comprehensive small animal surgical care to patients – including surgical consultations, soft tissue surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, and the management of the surgical patients within the hospital. They will have direct responsibility for teaching and evaluation of veterinary students, interns, and residents in the clinical setting. Didactic teaching of surgical principles within the pre-clinical years and coordination of including hands-on surgical training experiences during the 3rd year are essential components of the role. Successful candidates will have demonstrated expertise in small animal surgery through completion of a surgical residency program and be board-eligible or ACVS/ECVS board-certified in small animal surgery.
These positions are open-rank and candidates are eligible for appointment at the Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor roles, either in a clinical or tenure track, based upon qualifications and professional goals. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
- DVM or equivalent degree.
- Completion of a surgical residency training program with board-certification (or board-eligibility), ACVS or ECVS.
- Demonstrated experience teaching veterinary students in a clinical setting, strongly preferred.
- Currently licensed in or eligible for licensure in NJ.
- NJ CDS permit or obtained upon hire.
- DEA registration or obtained upon hire.

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine is located on the Glassboro, New Jersey west campus, 22 miles southeast of Philadelphia. The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine plans to admit its first class of DVM students in 2025, pending accreditation approval. Facilities will include an academic teaching facility aimed at the delivery of pre-clinical training, a small animal teaching hospital, and a research facility.
