Position Summary
The Content Marketing Specialist is a key member of the high-performing Marketing & Communication Division, responsible for maintaining high-quality, personalized communications that guide prospective students through their journey to enrollment. The strategist’s primary focus is on developing, managing, and optimizing email and SMS campaigns through Slate and other CRM tools to support Rowan University’s recruitment and engagement goals.
In addition to leading email and SMS marketing efforts, this role also contributes to broader content strategy efforts—writing and optimizing content for the web, digital advertising, and print collateral, and social media as needed to ensure consistency and alignment across channels. The ideal candidate combines strong promotional writing skills with a data-informed mindset and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Email & SMS Communications (Core Responsibilities)
● Plan, write, build, and deploy segmented, personalized email and SMS campaigns in Slate CRM and other platforms.
● Maintain strategic communications flows for various populations (e.g., first-year, transfer, graduate, international students, and their influencers) to support timely and relevant outreach.
● Monitor campaign performance and use analytics to refine messaging, improve engagement, and increase conversions.
● Collaborate with admissions, enrollment systems, and marketing teams to coordinate campaign timing, ensure data accuracy, and maintain CRM integrity.
● Ensure brand consistency and quality assurance across all electronic communications.
● Maintain and update communications calendars and workflows within the CRM system.
Multi-Channel Content Strategy (Supporting Responsibilities)
● Assist with writing and editing marketing content for the Rowan University website, landing pages, and blog as needed.
● Contribute copy and messaging for digital advertising and paid social campaigns.
● Support the development of print collateral such as brochures, flyers, and postcards that align with campaign goals.
● Help ensure consistency in messaging across digital and traditional channels.
● Participate in content planning meetings and assist with campaign coordination across the marketing team.
● Stay current on communication trends and tools to help evolve Rowan’s outreach strategies.
● Support additional assignments as assigned by the Director of Brand & Marketing Strategy.
Qualifications
Required
● Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
● Minimum of two (2) years of experience in marketing communications, with a strong focus on email and SMS marketing.
● Demonstrated experience working within CRM and marketing automation platforms such as Slate, HubSpot, or Pardot.
● Ability to manage communications workflows across diverse populations and stages of the recruitment funnel.
● Strong promotional writing and editing skills for digital channels.
● Familiarity with analytics tools to assess campaign effectiveness and recommend improvements.
● Working knowledge of content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Drupal, or Cascade CMS.
● Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred
● Experience in higher education marketing.
● Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and email rendering best practices.
● Experience with Google Analytics, UTM tracking, and SEO basics.
● Proficiency in project management tools such as Wrike, Teams, or similar platforms.
