ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: 12 Months – Annual Contract

QUALIFICATIONS:             

Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred.

A minimum of one year professional experience required.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with college athletes and administrators.

Ability to organize an effective recruitment and retention program for student-athletes.

Knowledge of and strict adherence to NCAA & NJAC rules and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible to the Director of Athletics

  • Work under direction of Head Football Coach relating to football program

Organization and administration of the Football Program

  • Develop and maintain a football program that is competitive within the conference, region and nation
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the NJAC and NCAA
  • Conduct planned, organized practice sessions
  • Scout opponents, review films when appropriate
  • Assist with team travel plans as requested
  • Submit budget requests when necessary 
  • Provide information, as requested, to the Director of Athletic Communications
  • Attend conference coaches’ meetings and press conferences when requested and in absence of head coach
  • Communicate and work with the Compliance Officer in monitoring student athletes’ academic progress
  • Responsible for assisting with the care and distribution of equipment in conjunction with the Equipment Manager.
  • Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches under your direct report
  • Assist with fund-raising activities within department and university guidelines to supplement program needs.
  • Submit reports and other paperwork as requested by the Athletics Director or designee
  • Develop a knowledge of and adhere to NCAA and NJAC rules and regulations
  • Keep abreast of current and new coaching trends by attending clinics, workshops and conferences when appropriate

Organization and Administration of Recruitment and Retention Program

  • Develop an effective communication/recruitment program with prospective student athletes
  • Develop contacts with secondary school and junior college coaches
  • Develop a positive working relationship with the Admissions Office
  • Submit recruitment forms/logs as periodically requested by the Athletics Director
  • Develop an effective retention program for Student athletes in conjunction with the Athletic Academic Advisor and Academic Support Services

Public Relations Related Activities

  • Develop an effective communications network with University faculty, administration and staff
  • Cultivate a working relationship with the Alumni Office
  • Develop a strong base of alumni and friends of the program
  • Participation in football alumni events
  • Active involvement with football alumni to ensure NCAA compliance
  • Communicate and speak to high school, professional and community organizations when requested

Additional Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend post season, special recognition events with student athletes
  • Participate in the national coaches’ associations related to your field
  • Become active in committee work when appropriate at the local, regional and national levels
  • Assist with game management as assigned
  • Facility supervision during open times and when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director

Candidates with a strong background and experience in the following areas will be given special consideration:

Coaching:

  • Coach and develop student-athletes, with a focus on Linebackers
  • Contribute to the coordination of special teams, or assist significantly in special teams duties
  • Plan and execute position group meetings, drills, and field sessions
  • Assist in the implementation of game plans, film review, and opponent scouting
  • Support all team operations and logistics in coordination with the Head Coach

Recruiting Responsibilities:

  • On-road recruiting in assigned geographic areas, including high schools and showcase events.
  • Conduct positional and area recruiting, building strong relationships with student-athletes, families, and coaches.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all recruiting communications.

Experience:

  • College playing experience (strongly preferred).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of college coaching experience or coordinator experience at the prep school level.
  • Proven experience coaching or playing Linebackers.
  • Demonstrated responsibilities or experience in coordinating special teams.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead a position group both in meetings and on the field.

Salary & Benefits:

  • In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 18 (Step 1: $53,277 to Step 4: $61,266), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.

For eligible employees, benefits include: comprehensive NJ State health, dental and retirement benefits, extensive accrued time off/paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement for employee, spouse, and dependents to attend Rowan University, Glassboro. Residency Requirements

Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as crime prevention, RUPD authority/jurisdiction, crime reporting policies, fire safety, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security on all our campuses. The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University on-campus student housing facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years, including reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act or the "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Police Department.
