Job Description:

Under the direct supervision within the Cooper Medical School at Rowan University (CMSRU) Vivarium, assists with the work involved in maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment and performs related work as required.

Examples of Work:

  • Washes, sterilizes, stores and prepares for the shipment and distribution of, vials, bottles and other containers used by the laboratories.
  • May take operation of a sterilizing room.
  • Inspects bottles, vials and other containers for cleanliness, and checks on the proper use of cleaning solutions.
  • Stores and seals delicate sterilizing laboratory equipment
  • May oversee the care of animal cages and equipment
  • Checks supplies of specimen containers and informs supervisor when additional supplies are needed
  • Maintains records of containers, dispatched and received
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining charts and other laboratory records
  • Maintains essential laboratory records and files
  • Responsible for the daily feeding, cleaning and observation of research animals in support of the laboratory animal husbandry program
  • Supports veterinary staff and researchers with the handling and restraint of animals and the administration of treatments
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency

Experience Requirements:

  • One (1) year of non-technical experience in a laboratory

License:

  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle rather than employee mobility is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the methods used to maintain laboratory facilities and equipment
  • Knowledge of the equipment commonly used in laboratories
  • Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to follow prescribed procedures in the proper ways of cleaning, handling and sterilizing equipment and materials

Work hours (Please note that the currently listed shift and availability of same are subject to change to meet the operational needs of the department)

  • This position is assigned to the day shift, typically Monday through Friday
  • In addition to regularly scheduled work shifts, the successful candidate must possess the availability to work days, nights, weekends, holidays and/or overtime hours when required to meet the operational needs of the vivarium

Salary:

  • Range 9 ($38,958-$42,205)
