Teaching and Learning Librarian(s)

Campbell Library seeks creative and collaborative librarians to join the Teaching & Learning Team. Reporting to the Associate Director, Teaching & Learning, the Teaching and Learning Librarian(s) provide liaison services, asynchronous learning design, research consultations, synchronous instruction sessions, and resource selection for academic departments as assigned. This position will manage relevant programs and spaces in Campbell Library, liaise with campus initiatives, and provide support for digital humanities, AI, social sciences and/or business research. This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track, full-time AFT (American Federation of Teachers) librarian position based in Glassboro, New Jersey.

Rowan University is a Carnegie-classified national doctoral research institution founded in 1923 and with eight campuses. Rowan is one of the fastest growing public doctoral universities in the nation, with 15 colleges and schools, over 23,000 enrolled students, 109 undergraduate and 16 doctoral degree programs. These positions are expected to jump in to assist the Teaching and Learning Team with new opportunities that are emerging daily.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to redesigning and providing a library instruction program that delivers measurable student learning outcomes, and contributes to larger student success at Rowan and beyond graduation.

  • Build creative new approaches to asynchronous modules and self-guided learning that incorporate new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to create scalable and sustainable support for campus.

  • Where most impactful, provide active learning-focused synchronous instruction sessions and hands-on research consultations, serving as the subject, resources, and methodology expert for Campbell Library in assigned areas. 

  • As part of a collaborative Teaching & Learning team, actively engage with faculty, students, and colleagues to establish partnerships and strong relationships to support teaching and research. 

  • Create ongoing channels of communication to recognize and report on campus needs for research and curricular trends, and identify opportunities for partnership.

  • Contribute expertise to collection development.

  • Organize programs and develop partnerships with campus stakeholders focused on the digital humanities, social sciences and/or business. Staff and coordinate activities for relevant spaces in Campbell Library.

  • Work cooperatively and effectively across library and campus units.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from a library school accredited by the American Library Association (or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Two years minimum of work experience in higher education environments.

  • Demonstrated creativity in designing patron instruction that is scalable and incorporates new multimedia and/or AI tools.

  • Flexibility and willingness to take on additional responsibilities over time.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to connect authentically with students and faculty. 

  • Experience contributing to a welcoming library environment for students, faculty, and staff of all identities.

  • Experience teaching or presenting workshops in a higher education context.

  • Functional expertise with emerging methodologies and tools, primary source usage, social sciences and/or business research tools.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Educational background, professional, or pre-professional experience in a relevant academic discipline. (Examples include an undergraduate or masters degree in a humanities, arts, social science or business-related field.)

  • Two or more years of working experience in an academic library or relevant research environment.

  • Experience in generative AI tool assessment and literacy.

Salary & Benefits:

  • In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is:  
    • Non-Tenure Track Librarian III: AFT: Range 20-22  
    • Non-Tenure Track Librarian II: AFT: Range 24-26 
    • Non-Tenure Track Librarian I: AFT Range 28-30
