Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine is currently seeking a Campus Associate Dean to represent the additional campus located in Sewell, NJ. The scope and focus of the contributions of the Rowan-Virtua SOM – Sewell Campus Associate Dean will be to meet the educational mission of the school and ensure consistent delivery of the curriculum, policies and procedures, and core values established at Rowan-Virtua SOM Stratford campus in the following key areas.
Academic Administration and Leadership
As a leader of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine additional location, the campus Associate Dean represents the additional campus in the areas of: medical school leadership; oversite of curriculum implementation, administrative oversite of SOM staff; departments and committees; all Rowan University health profession schools and programs at the Sewell location, hospital partners, area clinical partners; community-based faculty serving the educational programs for the Sewell Campus; accrediting and oversight bodies (COCA, AACOM, NBOME) and professional societies and organizations sharing our interests in medical education.
Curriculum Implementation:
Will work closely with the Vice Dean for Education and Assistant Dean of Pre-Clerkship Curriculum to ensure delivery of the curriculum in a manner which closely aligns and mirrors the established curriculum taught at all other Rowan-Virtua SOM campuses. Will work with the Associate Dean of Assessment to ensure effective curriculum delivery through program assessment, including data driven quality assurance; and reporting of compliance with all accreditation standards.
Supervision Received
This position reports directly to the Dean and works closely with the Vice Dean for Education of the Stratford Campus to assure curriculum delivery is aligned as closely as possible between both campuses.
Supervision Exercised
- Participate in the hiring of phased in year one and year two educators and small group leaders, and work with clinical partners to establish educators who have responsibility for student clinical experiences.
- Oversee all academic staff of Rowan-Virtua SOM Sewell Campus to include but not limited to (PBL Director, Students Affairs Director, CTL Associate Director, Clinical Education Program Coordinator, Executive Asst.) and work collaboratively with Librarian,
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with both the Stratford Campus and Sewell Campus in all relevant areas of supervision.
- Lead by example, demonstrating integrity, civility, professionalism and commitment to organizational mission and core values.
Examples of Work Performed
Academic Administration and Leadership:
- Provide oversight for implementation, delivery, and assessment of all phases of the curriculum
- Engage and collaborate with the Vice Dean for Education, Assistant Dean for Pre-Clerkship Curriculum, Assistant Dean for the Clinical Education, Associate Dean of Assessment to provide all required and elective curricular opportunities for Rowan-Virtua SOM Sewell Campus students (examples include but are not limited to Problem Based Learning System Blocks, Intersessions, Pre‐clerkship courses, Longitudinal courses and clinical clerkships.
- Work closely with the Rowan-Virtua SOM - Sewell Campus PBL Director to assure that teaching needs are being met.
- In collaboration with the Faculty Affairs Office and Rowan-Virtua SOM Department Chairs, recruit clinical faculty for the students and assure all teaching faculty for Rowan-Virtua SOM Sewell Campus have an active faculty appointment at Rowan-Virtua SOM.
- In collaboration with the Associate Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning:
- Review grades and academic progress for all students, and recommendations for those requiring improvement.
- Work with the Director of Faculty Development at Rowan-Virtua SOM – Stratford to ensure delivery of faculty development curricula for clinical faculty working with Rowan-Virtua SOM Sewell campus students.
- Serve as a steward for the Rowan-Virtua SOM- Sewell Campus curricular content and student career development.
- Ensure adequate provision of career counseling for all students
- Develop MSPE letters for all students
- Meet the mentoring needs of Rowan-Virtua SOM- Sewell Campus students.
- Review, and provide an outcome decision report for all Rowan-Virtua SOM- Sewell Campus student SAPC appeals except for dismissals
- Review and decide outcome of all Final Grade appeals for the Rowan-Virtua SOM- Sewell Campus students.
- Work closely with the Department of Academic Affairs in Stratford to ensure SOM compliance with the COCA standards regarding the educational program for Rowan-Virtua SOM – Sewell Campus students.
- Work closely with the Director of Student Affairs to adopt follow and maintain consistent implementation of policies and procedures established by the department centrally and outlined in the Rowan-Virtua SOM student manual.
- Represent the Rowan-Virtua SOM- Sewell Campus at Rowan-Virtua SOM meetings, as deemed appropriate by the Dean and Vice Dean for Education.
- Engage in innovation and participate in scholarship as it pertains to the Rowan-Virtua SOM- Sewell Campus program.
- Promote scholarship by Rowan-Virtua SOM- Sewell Campus curriculum directors and other key educators.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Assessment to oversee a centralized system to review core and elective clerkship performance and to ensure the return of a performance assessment of the student and an evaluation of the elective by the student.
- Collaborate with the Offices of Admissions, and Student Affairs, to advance the educational mission and wellbeing of students.
- Work with the Administrator of Rowan-Virtua SOM Sewell Campus to ensure operations meet the academic and programmatic needs of students
- Work with IRT personnel to ensure students’ and faculty needs are met
- Work with Librarians to ensure adequate provision of student learning resources
- Provide clinical oversight of Hubs assigned to the Rowan-Virtua SOM Sewell Campus
Patient Care:
- Candidate will see patients in clinical specialty preferably at the Rowan Medicine site in Sewell, NJ
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be knowledgeable about medical education and have a track record of participation in medical education.
- Must be knowledgeable about Rowan-Virtua SOM including its undergraduate medical education curriculum.
- Must be knowledgeable and able to work closely and collaboratively with educational leaders at both the Rowan-Virtua SOM – Stratford and Sewell Campuses.
- Must have superior interpersonal and team development skills, including interpersonal and communication skills that support consensus building and shared decision making.
- Facility in building collaborative and productive working relationships within the medical education milieu, including all clinical and basic science departments, and other key constituents and colleagues, to fulfill the academic mission of the institution.
- Demonstrated ability to foster interdisciplinary educational collaborations.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Eligible to be a full-time faculty member of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine at the academic rank of Professor,
- Terminal degree(s) from an established US College of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Have a minimum of 5 years of progressive academic leadership and administrative experience at an osteopathic medical school.
- Sustained record of success and demonstrated leadership in undergraduate medical education.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change in a complex environment; familiarity with an academic medical environment is essential.
- Exemplary teaching record and evidence of innovative approaches to medical education (e.g. teaching awards, curriculum development awards or grants)
- Documented accomplishments in teaching, research and/or service with involvement in local, regional and national educational initiatives (e.g. teaching, student development, faculty development)
- Board Certification in a medical specialty and licensed in NJ preferred, or eligible for licensure in NJ

Salary:
In compliance with The State of New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the faculty annual salary range for this position is $250,000 – $300,000 which will be based on the candidate's qualifications, professional experience, and other factors.
