Security Administrator, PSS2

Joining Rowan University's Security Operations department as a Security Administrator, you will play a pivotal role as a security subject-matter expert, driving essential projects and implementing vulnerability management initiatives. This role is designed for a well-rounded IT professional with a comprehensive background across the technical stack, from endpoint management to networking.

Reporting to the Director of Security Operations, you will bridge the gap between high-level security policy and hands-on technical execution. While the core focus is Vulnerability Management and SOC Analysis, your success will depend on your ability to understand the underlying infrastructure, drawing on experience in multi-tier technical support and systems administration to resolve complex security challenges.

What You Get to Do

  • Security Systems Administration: Directly manage and maintain the university’s core security platforms, specifically Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and the Tenable vulnerability management suite, ensuring the comprehensive health and monitoring of our diverse environment.
  • SIEM Operations: Support the Microsoft Sentinel environment, assisting with log ingestion, data normalization, and the development of SOAR playbooks to streamline incident response through automation.
  • Vulnerability Remediation: Identifying and investigating potential vulnerabilities, collaborating across departments to drive technical remediation and risk reduction.
  • Strategic Documentation: Developing security procedures, technical runbooks, and architectural diagrams that align with industry best practices.
  • Technical Mentorship: Acting as a security resource for Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams, providing expert guidance on security-focused desktop and networking issues.

We Are Looking For People Who Have:

  • Significant experience across the IT landscape, including Desktop Management, Networking, or Multi-tier Technical Support.
  • A strong understanding of security protocols, SIEM operations, and systems administration within an enterprise environment.
  • Practical knowledge of how to leverage AI/LLMs to enhance productivity, preferably with the ability to build AI agents or automated workflows to simplify security data analysis.
  • Technical familiarity with managing and securing Microsoft, macOS, and Linux environments.
  • The ability to interpret security reports, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable mitigations.
  • Proven ability to interface with cross-functional IT teams and management to communicate risk and implement solutions.
  • A degree in a related field or a combination of professional certifications and relevant work experience in a technical support or admin role.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience administrating vulnerability scanning platforms (Tenable), the Microsoft Security suite (Defender for Endpoint/Cloud), and SIEM log ingestion (Sentinel).
  • Foundational knowledge of firewall management (Palo Alto, Cisco, etc.) and network security architecture.
  • Industry certifications such as Security+, GSEC, or CCNA.
  • Experience operating within a 24/7 high-availability or Higher Education environment.

What We Offer:

  • Modern Work Model: A flexible hybrid schedule featuring three days of collaborative onsite work and two days of remote focus.
  • Retirement & Future: Leading retirement benefits with an 8% employer contribution.
  • Comprehensive Leave: 22 vacation days and 15 sick days allotted annually.
  • Healthcare: Premium medical and dental coverage with low employee contributions.
  • Educational Growth: Tuition benefits for you and your eligible family members/partners.
  • Wellness incentives and other programs to help support your work-life balance.
  • Housing incentive for Glassboro residents.
  • An inclusive and supportive work environment that values diversity.
