Position Summary

The Office of Industry Partnerships and Workforce Development serves as a bridge between academia and industry, fostering robust collaborations, enabling comprehensive industry partnerships, driving workforce development, nurturing student pipeline activity, promoting career development, and facilitating student placement.

The Assistant Director of Engineering Outreach will advance the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering’s mission by leading initiatives that prepare students for professional success and inspire the next generation of engineers. The role emphasizes career readiness, professionalism, internships, and K–12 STEM engagement.

Working as part of Engineering’s Office of Industry Partnerships and Workforce Development, the Engineering Outreach Assistant Director focuses on student-facing and K–12 outreach activities that complement the College’s broader strategic and industry initiatives. The position manages the Engineering Outreach Office, which may include supervision of staff and student workers, and ensures programs are executed with excellence, alignment, and visibility.

Responsibilities

Student Career Development & Professional Preparation

  • Facilitate and promote full-time engineering employment opportunities for graduating seniors.
  • Coordinate with the University’s Career Advancement Center and departments to strengthen career placement pipelines for all engineering disciplines.
  • Lead initiatives that provide students with information, resources, and tools to enhance professionalism, communication, and job-readiness skills.
  • Organize and deliver workshops, panels, and seminars on professional development, resume preparation, interviewing, and workplace expectations.
  • Support faculty in connecting classroom learning with professional skill-building opportunities.

Internships and Experiential Learning

  • Develop and promote summer internship and co-op opportunities for undergraduate engineering students.
  • Maintain strong relationships with employer partners that offer experiential learning placements.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to ensure that co-op and internship experiences are educationally meaningful and aligned with curricular goals.

Recruiting and Employer Engagement

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage engineering recruiting events such as career fairs, networking receptions, and on-campus employer visits.
  • Strengthen relationships with companies seeking engineering interns and graduates, serving as a consistent point of contact and liaison for employer engagement.
  • Support the visibility of the College and its students through targeted recruiting outreach and employer partnerships.

 K–12 STEM Outreach and Pipeline Development

  • Lead the College’s K–12 STEM outreach portfolio, including summer camps, competitions, and annual engagement events (e.g., AWE, BEST, RISE, CHAMP, Williamstown Clinic).
  • Coordinate and oversee hands-on engineering experiences that build awareness and enthusiasm for STEM fields among K–12 students.
  • Partner with schools, community organizations, and University offices to expand participation, emphasizing inclusiveness and early exposure to engineering education.
  • Coordinate faculty, student, and volunteer participation in K–12 outreach activities and events.

Events and College Visibility

  • Help plan and support special college events that enhance professional development, community connections, and student exposure to industry.
  • Represent the College at university and community outreach events, maintaining a professional and positive public image of Rowan Engineering.

Administration, Budget, and Supervision

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Engineering Outreach Office.
  • Supervise professional staff, administrative support, and student workers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Develop and manage program budgets and monitor expenditures for outreach and engagement initiatives.
  • Investigate and apply for funding opportunities associated with STEM education.
  • Maintain accurate program records, contact databases, outcomes data, and annual reporting.

Campus and Community Collaboration

  • Work with academic departments, student organizations, and campus offices on initiatives that advance outreach, recruiting, and professional development goals.
  • Serve on relevant college and university committees as appropriate.
  • Maintain open communication and alignment with the Associate Dean for Industry Partnerships and Workforce Development to ensure outreach and workforce initiatives are coordinated and strategically aligned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, education, or a closely related field
  • At least 2 (two) years of professional related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in career development, student programming, and K–12 STEM outreach.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute events and programs with attention to detail and outcomes.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in engineering, education, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in higher education or a university-based outreach setting.
  • Knowledge of employer relations, student professional development, or experiential learning programs.
  • Supervisory experience and budget management expertise.
  • Familiarity with the engineering profession and industry needs.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

  • In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 22 ($67,027.48 to $77,083.89), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors. 
  • For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10). 
  • For eligible employees, benefits include: comprehensive NJ State health, dental and retirement benefits, extensive accrued time off/paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement for employee, spouse, and dependents to attend Rowan University, Glassboro. (Tuition reimbursement will apply to undergraduate degrees only for spouse and dependents).
