Description:

The Department of Learning Technologies and Media enables and advances the academic mission of the University by conceptualizing, implementing, and supporting all technological standards and systems that enable the academic goals of the University with a focus on student and faculty experience. The Associate Director of Learning Technologies and Media will report to the Senior Vice President for Information Resources and Technology and is responsible for establishing and leading this new unit.

The Associate Director’s position requires a leader with strong skills in management and a deep understanding of higher education as an industry, academic culture and needs from a wide variety of perspectives, and a broad understanding of the various technologies used in the process of education and how they interact.

The Associate Director serves as the strategic leader tasked with bringing together separate support teams from across all three campuses and establishing the new department. The Associate Director will proactively work with the community to implement practices and standards uniformly that meet the needs of the University both today and into the future. The position requires a thought leader who excels at consensus building. The position requires the ability to bring individuals with diverse and sometimes conflicting needs to agreement.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing and maintaining Audiovisual design standards for classrooms, conference rooms, and other collaborative learning spaces across all University campuses.
  • Initiating and participating in projects that include the creation or renovation of collaborative learning spaces.
  • Establishing, maintaining, and acting as the primary owner and point of contact for partnerships with outside organizations that provide Audiovisual installation, integration, and professional services.  Other teams will interface directly with these vendors but Learning Technologies and Media will own the relationship.
  • In coordination with other IRT partners from Project Management, Infrastructure, Technology Services, and Clinical Systems teams, participate in Facilities Planning and Construction initiatives as the authority and Subject Matter Expert for venues and technologies within scope for the department.
  • Act as the owner of all applications targeted directly to the support of the academic mission of the  University.   
  • Act as the owner of all software packages used by multiple academic disciplines but targeted primarily to an academic audience, including budget planning and software acquisition.  Examples include SAS, Matlab, Solidworks, etc.
  • Establish and provide standardized event, audiovisual, design, and print and digital Media services to targeted clients across the University.  
  • Co-manage the Information Resources and Technology Information Technology Acquisition Process (ITAP) and act as the coordinator and primary point of contact for IRT consultation services.
  • Oversee annual College Tech Fee process and allotments in coordination with various academic and administrative units.
  • Liaise with representatives from the academic community to ensure that their needs are understood and appropriately addressed 
  • Set strategic direction, establish key performance indicators, and unify the various practices currently in place
  • Develop new and retire existing services and practices as appropriate
  • Ensure University policies and guidelines are followed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration or a technology related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a combination of leadership, technology support or management roles in a higher education setting.  History must demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to engage effectively and collaboratively with a diverse group of clients and stakeholders
  • Proven track record and experience developing processes and standards that meet established objectives
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, must be able to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, work well in a demanding dynamic environment and meet overall objectives
  • Must have practical working knowledge of Audio Visual, Learning and computing technologies
  • Ability to review, document, and improve existing processes
  • Ability to review construction and architectural documents
