Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Senior Licensed Practical Nurse (SOM Stratford)

SUMMARY: Provides nursing assistance to the providers and provides direction and oversight to the clinical staff and the clinical operations in their assigned area in support of the University’s and the school's mission and in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Clinical Duties:

Sets up patients in examining rooms including:

  • Discusses patient complaints, resigns and symptoms
  • Performs vital signs
  • Sets room up for specific indicated procedures, assists providers with procedures and chaperoning of patients.
  • Performs lab tests per provider's order. Ensures lab specimens are forwarded to the proper lab based on patient's insurance plan.
  • Reviews clinical quality metrics and maintains thorough updates and provides departmental data as requested.
  • Responsible for completing initial prenatal testing and monthly follow up. Coordinate OB visits as instructed. 

Properly dispenses medications as ordered by provider.

  • Maintains stock of sample medications.      
  • Cleans up and stocks exam rooms as needed.
  • Triages patient clinically related phones calls,
  • Triages laboratory results- identifies normal vs, abnormal pathology in lab test results so that results of concern are brought to the provider's attention, including but not limited to: pap smears, cultures, biopsy specimens, blood tests, urine tests, x-ray and radiology testing.

Arranges referrals, hospital admissions, and related duties as required.

Performs phlebotomy as ordered by provider.

Properly sterilizes equipment and instruments.

Maintains and cleans office medical equipment as required.

Performs all responsibilities in accordance with existing regulations (OSHA, CLTA, etc). Assists site supervisor with  maintaining regulatory standard in the clinical areas.

Assists in maintaining adequate amounts of medical supplies and equipment,

 

Leadership Responsibilities:

 

Maintains a professional and orderly office appearance in the clinical area, including self and clinical staff,

Ensures proper sterilization procedures are available to clinical staff and that all staff comply with proper procedure.

Manages inventory of all clinical supplies in fiscally responsible manner — notifies supervisor to reorder supplies as necessary, keeping inventories ample but not overstocked.

Responsible to manage the proper maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment,

Ensures medications are stored properly and that access is given only to those authorized. Ensures sample closet is stocked with relevant medications.

Trains staff on procedures and clinical information related to triaging of patient phone calls. Assigns staff to triaging responsibilities based on their level of knowledge.

Trains staff on procedures and clinical information related to triaging test results and determining abnormal for physician review.

Works with providers to ensure patient management protocols are available as needed.

Under supervisor's direction, defines the work of the clinical staff within the assigned area to make maximum effective utilization of employees, equipment, and material within budgetary requirements.

Recommends new or revised departmental policies and procedures ensuring patient flow is maximized, provider time is used efficiently, staff time is used efficiently and patient satisfaction is maximized.

Works with supervisor to assure adequate clinical support is available to accommodate patient volume.

Acts as a clinical liaison with local hospitals or agencies to ensure the necessary processes for scheduling of patients flow of patient information, and flow of patients exists.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities:

Always treats others with compassion, dignity and respect. Maintains a customer focused approach to all responsibilities.

Attends all mandatory in-service and trainings as directed,

Maintains competency in all applicable office computer systems.

Supports and adheres to the University policies regarding HIPAA and confidentiality.

Assists with front desk operations in accordance with training and supervisor's direction.

Maintains a professional and orderly office appearance.                 

Assists with the orientation and training of new employees as requested.

Understands and adheres to RowanSOM’s compliance standards as they appear in RowanSOM’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required, Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Possession of valid registration Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of New Jersey, At least three (3) years’ experience as an LPN in an outpatient and/or ambulatory setting with a preference in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques required. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in necessary office computer systems training is complete, must be able to work evenings and weekends. The ability to work independently, excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and flexibility required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time. Must be able to manipulate medical supplies and equipment. Must be able to communicate well with internal and external customers, often under stressful circumstances.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position
