About Rowan University, College of Engineering and The ECE Department

Located in southern New Jersey, in the greater Philadelphia metro area, Rowan University is a comprehensive public institution with 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in fifteen colleges and schools, including two medical schools: Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine.

A national leader in engineering education, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering was founded in 1995 and quickly gained national recognition for its innovative multidisciplinary, project-based approach to engineering education.  Since 2017, Rowan Engineering doubled both its full-time faculty and student population and started the engineering Ph.D. programs.  We also opened the doors of Engineering Hall, the new home of the ECE Department, and completed a full renovation of our original home, Rowan Hall. These projects tripled our available space and provided the College with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities.  The College currently enrolls over 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students in six departments and is home to four research centers, including the ECE’s Virtual Reality Center.

Our new focus on providing more research experience to our students and faculty is helping us enhance our research infrastructure and capabilities. We are also developing our South Jersey Technology Park and Joint Health Sciences Center in Camden, New Jersey for expanded industry collaboration and entrepreneurial activities, provide more funding for graduate assistants, and offer substantial and competitive start-up funds to all new tenure-track faculty.

The ECE Department has significant expertise in smart sensors, embedded systems, microgrid, signal & image processing, next-generation computer architecture, wireless and optical communications, machine learning, advanced imaging, power systems, aerospace systems and other fields.
