Summary

Responsible for operational tasks to create and stage simulation events, including, but not limited to, event planning and set-up, software application operation and troubleshooting, oversight and training of standardized patients (SPs) and direct support to student and faculty.  Responsible for clerical duties and assigned projects involving extracting, analyzing, and reporting data from simulation activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides direct line supervision during simulation events involving SPs, mannequin simulators, and task trainer simulators as assigned.
    • Ensures that simulation center rooms/stations associated with the assigned event are properly outfitted and equipped with necessary equipment, materials and supplies. 
    • Confirms that computers and audiovisual recording equipment associated with assigned events have full connectivity and functionality within the data capture software application (CAE LearningSpace EnterpriseTM).
    • Oversees workflow of SPs, faculty and students associated with assigned events.  Maintains orientation documents (room assignments and logistical instructions).
    • Monitor students during testing and maintains security of both materials and environment for assigned events.
    • Restores order to the areas used in the assigned events by personally attending to – or supervising SPs to -- gather and dispose of or file used paperwork, return equipment to its storage area or set up for use, restock disposable supplies, rearrange the furniture into inter-event configurations, and return computers to their standby settings. 
  • In collaboration with Application Specialist, utilize the Simulation Center data capture software application (CAE LearningSpace EnterpriseTM) and provides training, guidance, and support to Simulation Center stakeholders.
    • Creates event files, specifying scheduling and recording parameters.
    • Runs data capture sessions by enabling video recording and overseeing student and SP keyed input. 
    • Plans and provides for optimal simulation room/station setups by arranging furnishings and manipulating and pre-setting camera angles (pan, tilt & zoom) for superior recording quality.
    • Assists with inputting user database (enrollment in application) for students, faculty, SPs, and evaluators and assigning appropriate privileges – access and permissions to various functions and reports.
    • Assists with setting specific report parameters, extracting data, and releasing reports to subsets of users. 
    • Uses the email utility of CAE LearningSpace EnterpriseTM to communicate with students and SPs regarding scheduling and dissemination of training materials and reports.
    • Provides support to users relating to access and data entry.
    • Provides training, as assigned, to designated SPs to develop their ability to run data capture sessions.
    • Troubleshoots issues which impair software application functionality.
  • In collaboration with Standardized Patient Coordinator, assists with SP scheduling, training and quality assurance as assigned. 
    • Communicates with SPs to schedule and confirm assignments.
    • Trains SPs in role portrayal, including role-playing in improvisations with SPs to give them practice in performing assigned roles and rating student behavior.
    • Observes SPs in acting roles and provides feedback to promote standardization in role portrayal and grading.
  • Under the supervision of the Director of Programing, participate with projects involving collecting, analyzing and releasing data related to simulation events, including student grades and performance feedback reporting.
  • Participates in the maintenance of the Simulation Center supplies, equipment and facilities.
    • Maintains the inventory of supplies (disposables) and medical gowns.  Communicates inventory and restocking needs to Operations Coordinator as needed. 
    • Monitors working condition of durable equipment and reports maintenance and replacement needs to Simulation Specialist as needed.
    • Performs maintenance/cleaning of durable equipment under the supervision of Simulation Specialist as assigned.
    • Interfaces with Rowan-Virtua SOM Housekeeping, Facilities Management and other departments regarding the upkeep of the Simulation Center.
  • Attends routine departmental and committee meetings as requested.
  • Attends continuing education programs as required by Rowan-Virtua SOM Simulation Center operations, or recommended for professional development. 
  • Performs other related operational and clerical duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • At least 1 year of experience in an educational setting required; preference to working in a standardized patient facility/simulation center in a higher education setting. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with the use of computer equipment and devices. 
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize, multitask, meet deadlines, solve problems and work independently. 
  • Ability to direct the activities of, and speak with confidence in front of, groups of students, faculty, and other staff.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evening or weekend hours as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Movement of furnishings, props, computers, medical equipment, and educational equipment within the facility.
