Position Summary:

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University is seeking a dedicated and skilled pharmacist to join our team at our newly established small animal teaching hospital. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic veterinary education and clinical environment, focusing on pharmaceutical care for veterinary patients and support of veterinary and veterinary technology students.

Pharmacy Facilities:

  • Design and Standards: The pharmacy is designed to comply with USP800 requirements and includes ISO7 class cleanroom standards with ISO5 class fume hoods. The space features advanced ventilation and pressurization systems to maintain a clean environment.
  • Compounding Areas: The facility includes dedicated areas for sterile and non-sterile compounding, equipped with antimicrobial finishes, seamless flooring, and localized bench-top hoods.
  • Security and Access: The pharmacy is equipped with strict access control and security monitoring. Procedures for handling and dispensing are developed in adherence to FDA and DEA regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Pharmacy Operations: Oversee the daily operations of the pharmacy, ensuring compliance with USP800 standards for hazardous and non-hazardous sterile and non-sterile compounding.
  • Compounding and Preparation: Manage the preparation and dispensing of pharmaceuticals, including sterile and non-sterile compounding. Adhere to current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and FDA regulations.
  • Clinical Support: Provide pharmaceutical support to the small animal hospital, including drug therapy consultations, medication management, and safety monitoring.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with veterinarians and other healthcare professionals to optimize drug therapy and contribute to patient care. Support and train veterinary students and staff in pharmaceutical practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all operations comply with relevant regulations, including FDA, DEA, and Title 21 CFR. Implement and monitor adherence to policies and procedures for controlled substances and animal drug compounding.
  • Teaching: Development and delivery of pharmacology and pharmacy curriculum for DVM students, as well as development and delivery of continuing education content for graduate veterinarians and technicians.
  • Management: Responsibility for supervision of pharmacy employees, including pharmacy technicians and other support staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent. Current New Jersey Pharmacy Board licensure (or obtained upon hire) is required.
  • Experience: Previous experience with veterinary drugs and compounding is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care in a veterinary setting.

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine is located on the Glassboro, New Jersey west campus, 22 miles southeast of Philadelphia. The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine plans to admit its first class of DVM students in 2025, pending accreditation approval. Facilities will include an academic teaching facility aimed at the delivery of pre-clinical training, a small animal teaching hospital, and a research facility.
