The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Rowan University invites applications for one or more open rank tenure track/tenured faculty positions in all areas of biochemistry. We are particularly interested in candidates with a research focus on the biochemical and molecular foundations of diseases, with an emphasis on targeting proteins that could serve as therapeutic targets.

A Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry or related area is required and prior post-doctoral/academic experience and scholarly productivity is expected commensurate with rank. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach effectively at graduate and undergraduate levels.  Preference will be given to candidates with a track record and/or potential to establish and sustain a strong research program involving graduate and undergraduate students.  The successful candidates are also expected to develop and maintain independent, externally funded, and sustainable research programs.  Faculty in the department have diverse expertise including enzyme mechanisms, biomolecular interactions, drug development, synthesis and characterization, pharmacology, material synthesis and characterization, and computational chemistry, which offer opportunities to collaborate on interdisciplinary research initiatives.  The department includes three NSF CAREER award recipients as well as faculty with major research grants/awards from NIH (MIRA, R01), NSF, and other foundations/industries. The ideal candidates will provide complementary and synergistic expertise to our research efforts as well as contribute to the growth of our graduate programs in line with the mission of our department. 

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is one of six departments in the College of Science & Mathematics, which is also home to the School of Earth & Environment.  The department serves >400 graduate and undergraduate students in programs such as PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry; MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences; BS in Chemistry (ACS accredited); BA in Chemistry, BS in Biochemistry (ASBMB accredited), several certificate and accelerated degree programs (4+1 BS/MS, 3+4 BS/MD, 3+4 BS/DO).  The department also contributes to multiple degree programs on campus including MS and PhD in Complex Biological Systems, MS and PhD in Material Science and Engineering, BS and MS in Bioinformatics, BS in Neuroscience, and BS in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences.  

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in biochemistry/chemistry or related field is required.

  • Post-doctoral and/or related academic experience strongly preferred commensurate with rank.

  • A record of scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications and research funding commensurate with rank.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of multidisciplinary faculty
