Temporary Part Time Hourly International Student Advisor (International Center)

The International Center (IC) at Rowan University is seeking a part-time, temporary International Student Advisor. Reporting to the Director of International Student and Scholar Services, this is an ideal position for a recent graduate, someone who has experience with student affairs, and/or experience working with international students. Training will be provided for the successful candidate to carry out the F-1 visa duties of a Designated School Official (DSO).  Per federal regulations, DSOs must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.  

Issuing I-20 Form for New Admitted Students

  1. Coordinates integration of student records using Slate, Banner, and Terra Dotta
  2. Works with International Admissions and the English Language Program (ELP) to prepare certificates of eligibility (I-20) for students to obtain F-1 visa
  3. Reissue I-20 Form for those who need to defer their start date or reapply for F-1 visa
  4. Track the status of pending I-20 Forms and coordinates and shares information with relevant campus units

International Student Orientation and Cultural Events

  1. Help coordinate International Student Onboarding (Orientation) and Pre-Arrival webinars
  2. Help coordinate cultural/social events on/off campus
  3. Assist international students with campus and cultural adjustment

Communications and Outreach

  1. Assist with monitoring the Rowan International Center e-mail and responding to e-mails appropriately
  2. Help develop the IC’s bi-weekly newsletter using Constant Contact
  3. Assist with making updates and enhancements to the IC’s website
  4. Support general communication and outreach efforts

Minimum qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree
  2. U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residence
  3. Strong writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  4. Excellent attention to detail
  5. Cross-cultural sensitivity
  6. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  7. Strong time management and organizational skills
  8. Ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities

 Preferred qualifications

  1. Experience working within a higher education environment
  2. Familiarity with admissions, student affairs, and housing resources
  3. Familiarity with Banner and Slate
  4. Experience with communications and outreach using Constant Contact or a similar digital marketing platform

Hours

This temporary, part-time position is assigned no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week. Work is contracted annually to coincide with the fiscal year and is contingent upon budget appropriate.

Residency Requirements

Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person hired to an exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York or have ninety (90) days from the date of employment to establish, then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available on the Rowan University Police Department (RUPD), Clery Act webpage here. 

The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as crime prevention, RUPD authority/jurisdiction, crime reporting policies, fire safety, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security on all our campuses. The report also contains information about fire statistics in Rowan University on-campus student housing facilities and crime statistics for the three previous calendar years, including reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by federal law, Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act or the "Clery Act" and is provided by the Rowan University Police Department.
