Position Overview

The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering at Rowan University seeks a dynamic and innovative leader to serve as the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing the College’s research enterprise, enhancing graduate programs, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. The Associate Dean will work closely with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives in research and graduate education.

Key Responsibilities

Research Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the College’s research profile and external funding.
  • Support faculty in securing research grants and contracts from government agencies, industry, and non-profit organizations.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary and collaborative research within the College and with other colleges across Rowan University.
  • Oversee compliance with research policies, including ethical conduct, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the College in university-wide research initiatives and external partnerships.

Graduate Studies Administration

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of graduate programs.
  • Collaborate with department chairs and program coordinators to ensure academic quality and relevance of graduate curricula.
  • Promote graduate student recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives.
  • Oversee the administration of graduate assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for graduate students, addressing academic and research-related concerns.

Strategic Planning and Collaboration

  • Assist the Dean in developing and executing the College’s strategic plan, with a focus on research and graduate studies.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with industry, government, and academic institutions to support the College’s mission.
  • Work closely with faculty to align research and graduate education goals with the College’s strategic priorities.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment for faculty, staff, and students, particularly in research and graduate education.

Management and Reporting

  • Supervise staff and oversee budgets related to research and graduate studies.
  • Provide regular reports on research performance metrics, graduate program outcomes, and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to secure and manage endowments, grants, and other funding sources that support research and graduate education.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in engineering or a closely related field.
  • A distinguished record of research, scholarship, at the rank of full professor.
  • Demonstrated success in securing external research funding and leading research initiatives.
  • Experience with graduate education, including program development and student mentoring.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of trends and challenges in engineering education and research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.
  • Experience fostering partnerships with industry and government organizations.
