Position Summary: The Post Award Manager will provide comprehensive oversight of the grant portfolio, ensuring effective workload management, financial compliance, and subrecipient risk assessments. This leadership role is pivotal in developing and implementing training programs for new staff within DUR and across the university, ensuring consistency and quality control. The Post Award Manager will also facilitate improved communication with Principal Investigators (PIs), Departmental Administrators, and Department Chairs, contributing to more successful grant outcomes and reduced risk to Rowan University. This is a hybrid position with on-site hours required (hybrid schedule is subject to university policies and procedures).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of externally sponsored awards including ensuring the accurate set up of awards in Banner, timely invoice/billing to Sponsors, and monitor active awards with Federal, State, Local and Private Industry sponsors.
  • Reviews for accurate setup and timely management of individual sponsored agreements and closeouts of FFR/FSRs to sponsoring agencies for direct reports. Reviews the closeout process of all awards for team and confirming all reporting requirements have been met, as well as termination of awards in Banner.
  • Manages a team of Grant Analysts at varying experience levels.  Interview and onboard new Grant Analysts as needed.
  • Maintains expert-level knowledge to thoroughly review assigned incoming awards; analyze and prepare periodic financial reports; identify variances and investigate/analyze issues of the cost appropriateness of the allocation.  Provides interim portfolio coverage as needed.
  • Responsible for a portfolio of grants that have a higher level of difficulty, as a result of more stringent reporting requirements. Sponsors include but are not limited to: NIH, DOD, NSF, DOE, ONR, State of NJ, County awards
  • Reviews and approves journal entries from direct reports and workflow entries for external departments for financial compliance prior to posting.
  • Conducts annual and semi-annual staff performance reviews.
  • Collaborates with senior management on questions/issues of policy and regulatory interpretation, functionality, protocol, accounting practice, etc.
  • Reports any issues or problems related to the management of externally sponsored awards to the Director of Post Award on a regular basis. Applies technical knowledge of rules and regulations governing sponsored agreements as well as GAAP to evaluate, issue and counsel involved management.
  • Conduct subrecipient risk assessments and recommend and implement necessary controls to mitigate risks.
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of training programs for new staff within DUR and across the university.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field in Accounting, Management, Business Administration or another related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant management in a higher education or university medical center environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial compliance and risk assessment in the context of grant management.  Working knowledge of Uniform Guidance and its application to financial research administration.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders within the university.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) preferred. 
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Salary & Benefits:

  • In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000. When extending any salary offer, Rowan University considers many factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, work experience, education, training, key skills, internal equity, as well as market and other organizational considerations.
