The Academic Support Advisor/Educator for the HRSA Pathways to Careers in Primary Care Program is responsible for delivering educational content, coordinating instructional activities, and supporting program goals designed to encourage medical students to pursue primary care careers, especially in rural and medically underserved areas of New Jersey. Reporting to the Co-Project Director will provide clinical supervision to students during mobile osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) clinics in medically underserved areas of New Jersey.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruction and Facilitation: Develop and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons; facilitate classroom discussions, labs, and other learning activities in both in-person and online formats.

  • Curriculum and Course Development: Design, revise, and update course materials and syllabi; integrate new research, technology, and instructional strategies to align with program goals, institutional standards, and accreditation requirements.

  • Student Support and Advising: Provide academic advising and career guidance; hold office hours and offer individualized support to address student concerns and promote success.

  • Assessment and Program Improvement: Maintain accurate student records; participate in course and program evaluations to improve instructional effectiveness and learning outcomes.

  • Institutional Engagement and Compliance: Attend departmental meetings, serve on committees, support student recruitment and retention, and ensure compliance with institutional and accreditation policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualifications below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree, preferably in a health sciences or basic sciences discipline
  • 3 or more years’ experience as a tutor or academic support specialist
  • Experience designing and implementing instructional materials, study strategies, and academic support programs tailored to student needs.
  • Ability to assess student progress, provide individualized support, and develop strategies to improve academic performance.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), online tutoring platforms, and digital tools that enhance student learning.
  • Experience in tracking student progress, analyzing academic performance data, and using assessment tools to improve learning outcomes
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, to prepare and deliver instructional content.
  • Understanding of medical education, board exam preparation, and strategies for supporting students in rigorous professional programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Demands:

The role may require working extended hours as needed to meet deadlines. Attendance at meetings in various buildings and off-campus locations is essential.

Salary: 

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this AAUP position is:  

Instructor: ($ 100,787 to $ 136,800) * 
Assistant Professor: ($ 123,083 to $ 167,264) * 
Associate Professor: ($ 146,089 to $ 198,535) * 
Full Professor: ($ 170,255 to $ 231,285) * 

*Placement within the range is determined by the candidate's qualifications, professional experience, and other factors.   

For clinical faculty positions, additional compensation is paid through supplemental funding based on regional benchmarking standards and internal equity by specialty.
