Reporting to CMSRU Director of Marketing & PR, with a dotted line to CMSRU Director of Development, the Alumni Relations Specialist will be charged with planning, developing and coordinating alumni programs and services designed to foster and strengthen relationships between CMSRU and its alumni. Specifically, the role will support CMSRU’s strategic goals of building and expanding brand awareness and cultivating a strong alumni base for future giving initiatives.

This role will also focus on engaging current students to build early connections with the alumni network and the institution to lay the foundation for lifelong relationships and future alumni engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the liaison between CMSRU leadership and CMSRU alumni. Field alumni requests, concerns and questions and work with various departments to ensure fast and accurate responses.
  • Plan and implement programs that foster connections between alumni and the medical school, students, and other alumni. This includes creating concepts, overseeing implementation, assessing timelines, creating correspondence, analyzing and reporting status, and identifying solutions to barriers that may exist. Play a lead role in the planning and execution of Class Reunions and Alumni Weekend events.
  • Build relationships with current students through targeted programming and visibility, with the goal of fostering a sense of connection and pride that endures beyond graduation.
  • Encourage participation and serve as the point of contact for the CMSRU Alumni Association. Arrange Association meetings and facilitate agenda development. Work with Rowan University's Office of Alumni Engagement to enhance CMSRU alumni efforts.
  • Develop and lead planning of small to medium-scale events and initiatives for alumni that foster connections and encourage mentorship with current students. Some of these events might include on-campus or virtual lectures and meet-and-greets.
  • Work with CMSRU administration to ensure alumni support and presence at major CMSRU events, such as but not limited to, Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Match Day, and Commencement.
  • Create and maintain accurate alumni records. This will involve working with Rowan University’s relationship management digital platform in conjunction with the Office of Development. Report on the accuracy of records and standard alumni metrics and demographics on a regular basis.
  • Work with CMSRU Development Office on advancing philanthropic activity among CMSRU alumni.
  • Partner with the Digital Communications Specialist and Director of Marketing & PR to maintain alumni pages of the CMSRU website.
  • Work with Digital Comms Specialist and Director of Marketing & PR to research and write features about remarkable alumni for promotional purposes. Contribute news of alumni professional accomplishments for inclusion in CMSRU Update, Cooper Rowan Medicine, Rowan Today, and other print and digital communications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2–4 years of full-time experience in alumni relations or a closely related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, with a passion for building meaningful connections and communities.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take initiative, solve problems, and build programs from the ground up.
  • Proven ability to develop and coordinate multiple programs simultaneously; must be highly self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a start-up-like environment.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and a willingness to experiment, iterate, and adapt in a fast-evolving setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong service orientation, and the ability to handle situations with diplomacy and professionalism. Must be able to collaborate effectively across departments, including Development, Student Affairs, and Medical Education.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs required; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva preferred.
  • Experience in writing/storytelling, editing, and design strongly preferred.

Salary:

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 21 ($63,833.24 Min to $73,416.00), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors. 

For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).
