Rowan University, a public institution and statewide leader in online education, seeks an experienced and proactive Associate Director of Online Course Operations to lead a high-performing team responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and delivery of online course sections. This key leadership position reports to the Associate Vice President of Online Learning within the Online Learning Department in the Rowan Online Division. This role also oversees the management of faculty-led development projects and supports the design of non-credit offerings for internal and external stakeholders.

The Associate Director plays a key operational and managerial role in ensuring online courses are delivered on time, meet institutional quality standards, and provide a seamless experience for students and faculty alike. This position reports to senior leadership within Rowan Online and collaborates closely with instructional design, academic units, and technology teams. Goals for this position include ensuring the timely preparation and delivery of compliant online course sections and effectively managing assigned instructors. Additional goals include developing high-quality faculty-led online courses on schedule and successfully delivering non-credit course projects.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead and manage a team of internal and external personnel responsible for the preparation and maintenance of online courses, faculty-led online course development, and non-credit projects.
    • Provide coaching and support ongoing professional development to support team productivity and growth.
    • Drive operational improvements to increase efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance faculty satisfaction.
    • Ensure scalability of operations by managing staffing, timelines, and workload distribution.
    • Promote a student-centered, equity-minded approach across all course operations.
    • Oversee vendor management and staffing for external partnerships that support course operations.
    • Drive project success through the use of project management tools and management methodologies.
    • Document and communicate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all course delivery operations.

  • Course Preparation & Lifecycle Management
    • Oversee preparation of online course sections, ensuring course integrity is maintained during deployment for instruction.
    • Manage ongoing course maintenance, including updates and minor enhancements, in coordination with the instructional design team and academic stakeholders.
    • Develop and enforce quality control protocols for course prep and maintenance.
    • Manage version control and track updates in partnership with faculty and subject matter experts.

  • Faculty-led development, and special non-credit projects
    • Allocate resources, assign projects, and ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Design and manage processes and protocols for faculty-led course builds and non-credit projects.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Represent Rowan Online when collaborating with external stakeholders and leadership, including Instructors, subject matter experts, Academic Program Coordinators, Deans, and other academic stakeholders.
    • Coordinate closely with the teams responsible for course scheduling and staffing to ensure smooth deployment operations.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design and online learning operations, including team leadership or project management responsibilities.
  • Proven experience in instructional design, with an understanding of online course development, maintenance, and technical support operations.
  • Experience with common educational technologies used for online courses in academic settings, including the Canvas Learning Management System (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience managing instructional design projects, from concept through to completion.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing and scaling projects.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Salary:

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $99,000 to $123,000. When extending any salary offer, Rowan University considers many factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, work experience, education, training, key skills, internal equity, as well as market and other organizational considerations.
