Department of Political Science & Economics
Ric Edelman College of Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences
Rowan University
The Department of Political Science & Economics at Rowan University is seeking to hire a 10-month Assistant or Associate Professor of Economics, with an expected start date in Fall 2026.
We seek scholars with a data-driven research agenda, a record of publication or demonstrated potential to publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and the ability to secure external funding through grants and fellowships. We seek applicants whose empirical research centers on health, medicine, or population well-being—with particular interest in areas, such as health policy analysis, the economics of healthcare systems, and the social determinants of health/population health. We are interested in scholars examining the impact of artificial intelligence in these domains, including AI-enabled health economic modeling, machine-learning applications in policy evaluation, algorithmic decision-making in healthcare delivery, digital platforms and patient access, and the ways emerging technologies shape equity, cost, and health outcomes.
Candidates should demonstrate strong potential for interdisciplinary collaboration. Rowan University offers extensive opportunities to work with colleagues within the Department and College, as well as across Rowan University. Collaborative pathways extend to the Virtua Health College of Medicine and Life Sciences, which includes the Rowan–Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, the Salva School of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Translational Biomedical Engineering and Sciences. Together, these units advance interdisciplinary research and innovation across the social sciences, health, medicine, and the medical humanities, while strengthening medical education, health-professions training, interdisciplinary inquiry, and community-engaged scholarship.
The successful candidate will be expected to have and maintain a strong record of publications, secure and sustain external grant funding (a required component of the position), contribute to the teaching and service missions of the department, the college, and the broader university. Teaching responsibility includes undergraduate and graduate economics courses, with opportunities to develop electives and interdisciplinary courses at both levels.
