Position Summary:
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine (SSVM) at Rowan University invites applications for a one-year fellowship or senior residency position in veterinary clinical pathology beginning November 1, 2026 or until filled. This position is designed for a resident who will have completed two years of an ACVP recognized clinical pathology training program and wishes to complete the final year of training at Rowan. Post-residency board-certified or eligible applicants are welcome to apply. The successful applicant will train under the primary guidance of a Rowan University ACVP board certified clinical pathologist, with supplemental guidance from 2 ACVP board certified anatomic pathologists. Residents completing the final year at Rowan remain eligible for ACVP board certification, and Rowan will provide the documentation required for the Phase II application.

We know that most residents finish where they start, and we know that a move in the final year is not a small decision. This position exists for the resident whose situation has changed: a partner relocating, a mentor leaving, a program whose capacity has shifted, or a resident who simply wants more protected study time and more teaching experience before sitting boards. If that is you, we have built the year around three things.
Protected study time. The final year is structured with dedicated, calendared time to prepare for the ACVP certifying examination, along with organized study support from faculty who have taken and taught to that examination.
Teaching experience. Residents teach alongside faculty in the second year DVM clinical pathology course, contribute to case-based instruction, and work with fourth year students on clinical service. Residents interested in an academic career leave with a documented teaching record suitable for a faculty application.
Case exposure and scholarship. Residents participate in cytology and clinical pathology rounds, gross and microscopic pathology rounds, and specialty rounds. Residents are encouraged to present at regional and national meetings and to complete a small research project aimed at peer reviewed publication.
All clinical pathology training takes place in Glassboro. The teaching hospital opened recently and the caseload is growing steadily; in our first six months of operation the laboratory received approximately 150 cytology and fluid analysis submissions, together with approximately 1,000 hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and endocrinology cases. Residents would see essentially every case that comes through the laboratory, with direct faculty review to the extent needed/desired, rather than a fraction of a high-volume queue.

A resident or fellow who completes the final year at Rowan will know our faculty, our caseload, our curriculum, and our students, and will be a strong candidate for anticipated faculty openings in clinical pathology at SSVM. About the school:
SSVM is New Jersey's first veterinary school. A 167k square foot building houses a full-service small animal teaching hospital, an academic facility with lab and classroom space, and research laboratory space. Services provided include primary care, emergency, anesthesia, cardiology, critical care, dermatology, dentistry, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, clinical pathology, anatomic pathology, and surgery.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine and be eligible for a New Jersey veterinary license. Applicants must have completed two years of a clinical pathology residency in good standing by June 30, 2027.

Applications should include veterinary college transcripts, a curriculum vitae, a statement of professional goals, and two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicant's clinical and diagnostic training. A letter from the applicant's current residency program director is not required at the time of application.
Review of applications will begin October 1, 2026 and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Candidates will be interviewed by Zoom. The starting salary is $50,000, set above the first-year residency stipend to reflect the level of training, with comprehensive university benefits.
