The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine invites applications for an Associate Professor position. We seek an accomplished investigator with an established, independent research program focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms that contribute to chronic human disease pathogenesis. We especially encourage candidates whose research bridges fundamental cell and molecular biology with disease mechanisms, such as translational biology, model systems, or emerging experimental and computational approaches. The successful candidate will join a productive, collaborative department with expertise in cardiovascular disease, carcinogenesis, immunology, organelle biology, and genetics. The position is research-intensive, with limited teaching responsibilities for graduate or medical education. Salary, start-up funds, and other considerations will be commensurate with experience. Rowan also provides a comprehensive benefits package.
Rowan University is a comprehensive public research university with a growing portfolio of biomedical, clinical, engineering, and translational research. The University offers a distinctive interdisciplinary research environment that brings together investigators across medicine, biomedical sciences, engineering, data science, and other fields. Rowan is one of only a small number of universities in the United States with both M.D. and D.O. medical education programs, providing exceptional opportunities for collaboration across basic, translational, and clinical research. Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine (Rowan-Virtua SOM) is located on the University’s Stratford, New Jersey campus, within the greater Philadelphia metropolitan region. The location provides access to a rich biomedical and academic research environment while offering convenient proximity to Philadelphia, the New Jersey shore, and New York City.
The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine is committed to advancing fundamental and translational research to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying human disease. The Department brings together investigators studying diverse aspects of cell biology, molecular biology, metabolism, organelle function, neuroscience, and disease pathogenesis. The Department is expanding its research enterprise and seeks to recruit outstanding investigators who will complement and strengthen existing areas of expertise while establishing new interdisciplinary collaborations across Rowan-Virtua SOM and Rowan University. Faculty have access to modern research facilities, advanced instrumentation, shared research resources, and opportunities for collaboration with basic scientists, physician-scientists, clinicians, computational investigators, and engineers across the University. The Department particularly values research programs that integrate innovative experimental models and emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications
Successful candidates are expected to have:
- A PhD, MD, DO or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant biomedical discipline.
- An established record of independent and productive research in cell and molecular biology or mechanisms of disease.
- A strong record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific contributions appropriate for appointment at the Associate Professor level.
- A demonstrated history of extramural research funding and evidence of the ability to sustain an externally funded research program.
- Evidence of effective mentorship and a commitment to the education and professional development of graduate, medical, or postdoctoral trainees.
- A demonstrated ability to contribute to collaborative and interdisciplinary research programs.
Preferred Research Expertise
We will consider any outstanding candidate, but are particularly interested in those whose research incorporates one or more of the following areas or approaches:
- Molecular mechanisms underlying disease.
- Metabolism, mitochondrial biology, and organellar function.
- Molecular virology and virus-host interactions.
- Immunology, inflammation, and immune regulation of disease processes.
- Computational biology and bioinformatics.
- Mouse or human genetics, transgenic mouse models, or other model organisms.
- Human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived models.
- Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture and organoid systems.
- Organ-on-chip or other advanced human disease-modeling platforms.
Expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a vigorous, externally funded independent research program; publish high-impact scholarly work; mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees; contribute to graduate and/or medical education; and participate in departmental, institutional, and professional service. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the Department’s collaborative research environment and to develop interdisciplinary interactions across Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine and the broader Rowan University research community.
