Director of Employee Success, Rowan Online, Rowan University 

 

Position Overview 

Rowan Online Education Mission is to deliver programs that are flexible, engaging, and innovative with a degree of excellence that enables a Rowan University education to be accessible, convenient, and affordable. The Director of Rowan Online Employee Success is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive human resources strategies that align Rowan Online employees with this distinctive mission.  

This Human Resources role serves as the front-line HR business partner dedicated to the Division of Rowan Online. The selected candidate will oversee a variety of human capital areas for Rowan Online, including but not limited to recruitment, staffing, onboarding, HR operations, policy review and creation, engagement, training, and labor relations. The ideal candidate will work to build a distinctive culture of excellence among employees and instructors in the online education environment while ensuring integration with Rowan University policies.  This role fosters a culture unique to Rowan Online and its Mission by leveraging a Rowan HR assets, policies and standards. 

 

Reporting 

While reporting within the Office of Human Resources under the Senior Director of HR, the Director of Employee Success is a key member of the Rowan Online Leadership Team and has dedicated partnership assignment also working under the CEO of Rowan Online.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

 

Talent Management 

  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training onsite employees and online instructors with specialized skills for virtual education delivery and service standards 
  • Create, maintain and refresh job descriptions and online instructor contracts regularly to ensure alignment with evolving institutional needs and online teaching standards 
  • Support campus-based faculty transition to online teaching or supplemental assignments through clear opt-in processes and payment structures (e.g., opt-in teaching requirements, payment structures for overload) 

HR Operations/Onboarding

  • Create a new and efficient onboarding process for all new Rowan Online employees with a content specific general orientation schedule and presentation
  • Implement an onboarding feedback process for employees and managers to capture progress and continued areas of improvement for new hires
  • Recommend and/or create and implement policies and procedures within Rowan Online while maintaining compliance with staff/faculty collective bargaining agreements and university guidelines
  • Identify deficiencies in process and rectify by working within Rowan systems to streamline, rework, or create new workflows.

Labor Relations

  • Be the first contact for staff and managerial concerns
  • Work with supervisors on appropriate interventions for performance review and interventions
  • In conjunction with the HR department of Labor Relations, receive union concerns and respond to or rectify labor complaints

Employee Retention and Engagement 

  • Build and nurture a culture of mission and productivity within the Rowan Online community 
  • Develop and facilitate engagement initiatives including All-Hands meetings, RO Leadership sessions, Lunch & Learns, and Skip-Level meetings 
  • Coordinate Professional Development opportunities tailored for each employee's growth path 

Performance Optimization and HR Consultation 

  • Support comprehensive implementation of all workplace initiatives such as employee performance, Outside Activity Questionnaires, Flexible Work agreements, workspace optimization, performance metrics, performance improvement plans and/or instructor agreements 
  • Work as a front line resource addressing the unique request of both Rowan Online employees and managers 
  • Collaborate with University HR/Labor Relations on policies (including applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements) to support performance standards

Workforce Readiness  

  • Create and deploy a best-in-class Rowan Online new employee orientation program with comprehensive onboarding training  
  • Ensure compliance with any required specialized training for employees and online instructors (ie: virtual teaching excellence, FERPA, etc.) 
  • Support campus-based faculty transitioning to online teaching through tailored onboarding programs or onboarding of external instructors 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive training resources, including virtual handbooks, guides, or other digital training materials 

 

Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of progressive general HR experience, that is diverse and includes recruiting, employee relations, performance management, and training
  • Professional experience working with many varieties of professional and clerical employees and all levels of management
  • Industry experience in higher education or online learning environments is helpful but not required
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Human Resources, Education Administration, or related field OR HR Certification preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise decisive leadership on critical matters while embracing adaptability when innovation is essential 
  • Strong understanding of faculty affairs and academic employment structures 
  • Experience with performance management systems and professional development program design 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders 
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations applicable to higher education with preference for candidates who have experience in multi-state labor law compliance 
  • Demonstrated ability to build culture and drive engagement initiatives 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills 

 

Salary

In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,500 to $99,750. When extending any salary offer, Rowan University considers many factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, work experience, education, training, key skills, internal equity, as well as market and other organizational considerations.
